Dinging

HI, I'm new to the forum,
I have a 99 Class A Coachman Catalina , when I push in the emergency brake valve, and then put into gear, I get a dinging sound.. then when I put into neutral the dinging quits.. I thought it would have been the jacks being down,, but that doesn't seem to be the problem.. all jacks are up.. Any idea what it could be??

Try cycling the jacks, down, then up. It could be one of the switches that senses 'jack up' is malfunctioning.

Could be the sensor that tells the warning dinger that the park brakes are off is defective. Do you also have a " Park Brake " light on the dash? Does it stay on ?

I'm not sure what chassis your coach is built on , Freightliner, Spartan , ??

EDIT: Seat belt warning ?

He fact that it stops when in neutral says it is not the jacks. It certainly sounds like it is the park brake sensor or possibly the park brake itself not airing up. Does the coach idle forward when you take your foot off the service brake?

Watch the dash lights during the dinging, for some indication of the reason. The audio warning is often secondary to a visual warning.

Few Class A makers take time to wire the seat belt latch into the computer, so it could be the seat belt warning. Even my '07 on a Workhorse chassis does that.

Best luck

It's on a Freightliner chassis, The brake light goes out, When you put it in gear, dinging starts,,, when you put it back into neutral, dinging quits.

Here's a link to a PDF of your manual:
Owners Manuals - Coachmen RV
Air is up to over 100 lbs.?

If you turn on power to the jacks, no red lights should be on. (means jack is is extended +2")
Is there a slide extended alarm?

Since it is related to shifting, it could be a transmission alarm. If you have an Allison 3000, check this PDF to see how to read error codes:

I'll go through the info , I have the , light and the dinger may be controlled by the same sensor so this may not be the cause.
Something to try, put the trans in gear with the park brake set, is the noise the same ? I'd have to try my coach but I think that mine has a buzzer for that warning.

Maybe time for a call to the Freightliner Free help line . Have your serial number handy.
1-800-385-4357 inquire about joining " Access Freightliner " for online access to wiring diagrams and parts info for your chassis. Takes a while but worth it.

Ok the chain of command , the brake sensor , reports to the VDC, and the VDC reports to the instrument panel and the panel controls the buzzers and chimes.
Here is testing info on the system.
