Direct TV or Dish in Canada as a US resident
I do a lot of traveling in BC Canada. Would like to watch sports during my late summer/fall travels (college football).
Is it possible to get Dish or Direct TV in Canada if you are a US resident?
Can your US account work across the border?
Or any other suggestions?
Thanks

How far across the border? Maybe - Don't tell them you're in Canada, get a service address just inside the US

Hi,
There is no restrictions on Directv in Canada. You take your receiver with you and either have a roof installed antenna which will lock on to the satellite or buy a dish and stand on Craigslist (which is what I have). I have the wireless option for my house so I take that equipment too to run the bedroom tv. There is a dish aiming app online but it doesn't work with BC zip codes (I just tried), so you'll need to know the elevation and azimuth for Directv at each place you stay or you could buy a satellite searching test equipment which will help you aim and lock on to the satellites.

Yea it will work just fine as long as you know where to point it. Regardless I never tell my sat provider where I'm taking there stuff. Did that once as they recommended and the took a few channels from me when I was out (Mostly my local channels). Since then I decided they don't need to know where I'm going. I just take it an set it up. Have never had an issue in any of my travels.

We've used our Winegard Trav'ler to get DireTV HD as far east as Prince Edward Island and as far west as Calgary. The satellites are low in the sky so what's on your horizon can be an issue. Plus, you have an extended atmospheric path length so you are susceptible to rain fade you can't even see locally. On PEI we occasionally had to endure the "hardship" of watching some channels in SD, but we survived!

Where you can get it also depends on the size of the dish you have.
An example of Dish coverage for North America is shown below.
I know that in the last few years US and Canadian satellite TV providers have greatly narrowed their beam coverage area near the border.
United States Coverage: DISH Network

Got US Direct TV in Baniff, BC. Also got it in New Brunswick, Canada.
As you go further north I'm sure it will stop somewhere.
Hope this helps.
