Agreed! We have had the system for 4 years and just keep one of our spare HR21 receivers from home. I just activate it when we head out.

I've been a directv customer for years and when I upgraded to the Genie system a year ago at the sticks and bricks, 3 of my receivers apparently belong to me since they didn't want them returned. They work perfectly in the MH.

Our "new to us" 2000 Bus came with a Dish setup. It is hooked into a DVR, VHS, and a roof antenna so I am NOT going to dive into this....we have a small local media company that does ALL this in your coach....and the service is very cost effective. We also live a short distance from the Wingard factory/sales/advice... so any equipment I will need I can drive across town and get....nice.

DirecTV now uses a few differnet antennas. If your Trackvision is a DOME or Single/Dual LNB (note two LNBs is a Twin, DUAL is one LNB two outputs) then then check the antenna setup in your receivers.

IF 18" Round is grayed out.. that receiver WILL NOT work with a dome.

NOTE two.> Domes work with DirecTV. they do not work with DirecHDTV.

I have one of those old units still on my coach. It works just fine most of the time but I had to buy an old D-10 Directv box with the low speed data connection on it. bought it on Ebay for $10. The newer D-12s don't have a low speed data RJ-22 connector in the back.
Good luck.

Snipe, I'm about to install direct tv on my unit as well. Someone mentioned I may have issues with the newer boxes because I have an older unit. From the looks of the record left by the previous owner, they may have had both direct and dish at some point. I never thought about buying a direct tv box on ebay and just activating it. I have the Wineguard on my coach.

How does the antenna know where to find the satellites with the Wineguard?

My less expensive (than Winegaard) has gps built in somewhere and uses it with an internal lookup table for initial positioning, then goes into a search mode for final positioning.

Good question Snipe, I don't know. Guess I'll just make an appointment with Direct TV's RV installer and see what happens.

We have a wingard trav'lr on our coach .It was set up for directtv when we bought it but we switched to dish net. We used the same mount and motor but switched out the antenna and probe(?) plus the box. I thought we saved some money, but from posts on this thread ,it might have required only throwing some switches? Wingard did not tell me this. Oh well. Anyway I still have the antenna dish and probe for Directv. Anyone need it ,its yours for the freight.

If you're asking about the Travler, it finds the satellites automatically.

Capnj,

I am going to try and set mine up with existing Direct TV. I'll take it off your hands. Personal message me with details and I'll pay freight.

Thank you!

No switches on the Travler to change from Dish to Direct. You were given the correct info and parts.

When people talk about "changing switches" in the antenna, they are talking about a dome type antenna. However, none of the RV size domes will provide HD with DirecTV.

I do not think the antenna, probe and box will help if you have a dish setup already. When we are talking about getting DirectHD you can switch from Directv traveller to Dish version by just getting the parts Capnj got. If you are talking about going from dish traveller to directvHD traveller it takes a whole new unit.
