You can also buy a receiver off EBay.......just make sure it's advertised as an owned unit, not a leased one.....some folks didn't pay their bill, and try to sell the receiver, and you'll get stuck for their bill if you try to get it activated.... I've bought 3 and had really good luck.....after you get it, you need to get the package you want, and they'll send you a card for your receiver.....so, if you buy a box off EBay, if they say it comes with a new card, that card won't work.....I paid $ 20/30 for the ones I bought....

What you're asking makes sense, and I'm going through the learning curve also. We just recently signed up with Directv (had cable) so we could have satellite in the RV. Our "deal" included 4 receivers. We added a 5th receiver for $7 a month so we would have 2 for the RV. Those are HD25-500 and are different from the S&B. As Dutch Star Don wrote, there's the main receiver/Genie at our most watched TV and 2 small "client" boxes at the other TV's. The antenna for the S&B came with the signup and was installed on the edge of our roof. It is identical to the antenna Dish (the company) uses on roofs and poles sticking in the ground. I was confused because people on this forum refer to the antenna as a "dish", I suppose because of the similarities in shape.
Now, getting an antenna for the RV is where I'm at and spending the money for the Winegard trav'ler ain't going to happen this year. I don't know for sure but have read this antenna is the only one that will bring in HD reception. I've also read Directv SD isn't that far off the HD resolution. My checkbook says find out. So, since I have 3 Directv antennas (previous service) and only need the latest, I've taken one off the roof, ordered a tripod from Amazon and will work from there. Heck, I have trouble getting TV's in the RV to work with cable or OTA when setting up in campgrounds. I must be nuts!

There are no in motion units that receive HD for Direct. In motion only works with Dish.

I know that. I'm getting a in-motion satellite as well as a winegard trav'ler installed which has HD for directv just for that reason...

WNYtraveler, yep it helped. Now I know I should have left the "extra" reflectors alone. This is in part from the blog.

"You will also need a dish – mine is the Slimline 5 LNB model here. Check with SolidSignal, on Amazon, or any of the other dish sellers to see if they have what you have at home. It has to match the one on your roof EXACTLY as far as the number of LNBs (low noise blockers) and wires. SWM (single wire method) is common on recently installed units; others have two cables. We take the receivers from our house when in the RV, but to save a bit of effort we bought extra power cables/supplies for them. They're fairly inexpensive and available online. That way all we have to take is the box itself, with none of the cords.
There is a trick to getting the major networks when travelling the country without having DNS or changing your service address too often. Choose a service address in the NYC area, and you'll get the New York stations. No, DirecTV don't actually check if you're at that address. New York CBS, ABC, etc. are the east coast DNS stations, so are not limited by the normal spot beam rules. The truly local NYC stations won't follow you, including PBS stations. I assume there's a similar option for the West Coast, but haven't tried it.
