Do you feel uncomfortable in a VERY expensive rig?

On your part maybe, not mine. If I desired a MH I would have looked for a good deal as others do, found one, and bought it. After all, once it leaves the dealer brand new, it depreciates. Let the original owner take the loss....

There you go! Better to buy used. Craigslist almost always has used MHs for sale in the RV section. Some are truly fantastic deals. Especially from those unfortunate desperate people who need cash due to job loss or illness. MHs were the first things we looked at when we decided tent camping was more for the young and we were getting up in years. What discouraged us most was that we would have to maintain another vehicle besides the MH (Toad) and the low gas mileage MHs get.

With a TT like we have now, we unhook it, set it up, and can take off in our TV.

Good. That's how you should feel. It doesn't bother me a bit when I look out the window of my TT at someone in a tent or beat up old PU camped in the next site. What difference does it really make if they're enjoying themselves camping? If they weren't having fun, they wouldn't be there. If they feel envious someone has something more expensive, let that motivate them to work harder or save more to get what they desire.

I worked hard from age 9 until this year. I earned everything I have. My rig is a 1988 model. I got a good deal on it and paid cash. What I paid for my MH wouldn't buy the sofa in a $400,000 rig. My rig is not the prettiest, nor the biggest (thank goodness), nor the newest. It fits my needs and then some. I'm proud of it; I enjoy it. It might not have been exactly what I wanted, but it was close. Now I'm making some changes to it to suit me, and I'll be proud of the work that I do to make it mine.

I don't look down on anyone, or up to anyone. Each to their own. I may like something about your set-up, may admire it's beauty and gizmos, but I will not envy you for it. That guy in the tent may be smarter than all of us, his motor doesn't die, A/C doesn't go on the fritz, door remote doesn't stop working, carpet doesn't wear out, his minivan probably gets 25 mpg's, and making his bed is a cinch.

From seeing the prices of them anymore I'm not so sure a $400k unit is super high end, probably more like a million now so go for it, you should fit right in.

That was their claim. Whether it makes sense to me or not is irrelevant.

3. And the $400k MH guy (again, you seem to focus on him) is envious of

MH out there, but also lots of payments being made on every type
of RV, cheap or expensive.

Satire my dear, satire. Of course there are people making payments on even the cheapest rigs. We all know that.

4. And now the poor guy feels rotten because his MH is loosing value while
he is making payments on it. I guess you don't realize that every RV out
there, yours and mine included, is loosing value every day, whether
paid for or not. It's called depreciation, look it up, it's in the dictionary
under "depreciation".

Satire. Look it up, it's in the dictionary under "satire". Of course rigs depreciate. Are you to be taken seriously?

5. And as far as not fitting into smaller spaces in campgrounds, maybe he is
like me and doesn't care about smaller places in campgrounds, because
they usually don't have full hook-ups and pull-through spaces. I doubt
there is any envy that he can't stay in a small space, but since he can
afford a $400k MH, he is probably smart enough to plan ahead and find
a larger campground.

Why would he want to downsize? If he is smart enough to make
enough money to afford that RV, why isn't he smart enough to figure
out what he can afford to pay for an RV.

Unforeseen circumstances change in all our lives despite how smart we may be. Sometimes the changes are to our detriment. Look around you. That one was not meant to be satirical. I have a acquaintance who "had it all" until he lost his high paid high power job in this recession. They're now lucky they're still in their house. The big fancy boat, the Harley MC, the expensive sports car, all the luxuries... all gone.

If he can afford that RV, I doubt he has any envy towards our RVs.

Look up Satirical. Actually he may or may not be envious. Since when does a $400,000 RV bring happiness and satisfaction? Even millionaires commit suicide. He may have been happier in his popup or old 5th wheel and long for those days.

So far the rigs that impress me the most are the old antique TTs that have been carefully and lovingly restored. Not cheap but the results I've seen are beautiful. TT's from the late 1940s, 50s and 60s. Of course many people will add modern things like flat screen TVs, A/C etc. but the basic unit is the same. You just don't find anything new as warm and homey and welcoming as these old restored TTs.

Whoops, you're wrong there. Our TV, not towing, about 16 MPG sometimes more, sometimes less depending on traffic, hills, city roads etc.

What are you driving that gets 30 mpg? And how many MPG did you get towing it with the MH to the site?
