We are able to move them forward and place the front chair legs over the table legs. That is all we do and have never had one tip.

Bungee cord tying the two chairs leg bar together.
Chairs will walk sideways a little bit on those 180 degree curves in the mountains but cannot move forward or backward.
Be sure the refer doors are locked closed on those same curves.....

We never lay our dining chairs down when traveling. The dining set is in the slideout, which has carpet. I suppose it they were on tile it might be a problem.

I don't look for things to worry about. Common sense tells me to secure things. Maybe my life will be slightly longer because of it.
I suppose you would frown on me replacing my 7 hardwired house smoke detectors at 10 years instead of waiting until they start to fail. I could probably get another couple years out of them.

I have some rubber which came from small inner tubes. I place one over each chair back leaving them facing the table. Then I connect each inner tube with a strap and bungee between the two. The chairs stay put. Before this I traveled with them on the bed--as previous owner had done.

LOL. Life is Short - I don't want to waste any time securing (and worrying about) stuff that doesn't need to be. And I don't want to waste any time fixing stuff that I could have prevented from breaking in the first place.

Things that lead to accidents happen real slow. Accidents happen real fast.
I'm a pessimist in preparation and an optimist by attitude.
This is what happens to stuff that's not tied down. Note some of the mess had been picked up already. (see picture) The chairs at the table were tied.

Yes always on the side edge ; had a hard emergency stop, ONE TIME , the bungee/strap had jiggered itself loose - end up with a chair in the driver compartment Thank God no damage no injuries.

"CountryB"......I bought a couple of lever action suction cups and attached them with a tin arm and Velcro to the side of the two chairs. If you have chairs with openings in the upper back, you don't need the tin arms, just a strap.
I put the rough side of the Velcro on the tin arm I made, about 6" long by 1" , bent into an "L" shape. One end of the arm attaches permanently to the suction cup, the other end attaches with Velcro to the side of the chair. I placed the chair where I want it to sit and attach the Velcro arm and then use the suction cup to attach it to the counter or table. Takes less than a minute to place both on and I through them in the cabinet when we arrive.

Looks like you have enough opinions but I lay mine down on their side. This seems to be the most stable position for them. I have forgot to lay them down and they never moved but I went by my dealers recommendation. Personally I think they would be fine standing since they are on carpet. My desk chair is on tile and it slides around but never goes very far.

My unit has straps to hold chairs in place. I use them, but they're probably not needed. I have a Britta pitcher and a Keuring coffee maker sitting on the counter and neither one ever moves during transit.
