Strap and Buckle
Tagged a thin black strap to the wall under the table. This wraps around both chairs and buckles to hold them in place. Strap stows out of site when we’re staying somewhere.

I did have the chairs come forward once when braking. Now, I have one of those ball bungees. I was just strapping the legs together with it but now
I mounted two small command hooks to keep it tightly up at the top of the legs.

We turned ours around and put their backs against the wall behind. 6 years no problems.

Nope. Ours are heavy, with wide spaced legs. Our coach rides on air bags, which may help, but the chairs, tucked under the table and snug to the slide wall have never moved. A pool noodle between the mirror and chair would protect your mirror....

Be careful that those hooks don't pull up your wall paper. Had that happen to me twice now.

I replaced one chair with a leather desk chair on wheels. Put the dinette chair in the bedroom. That one has to go on the bed when the slides come in.
Been laying the other chair on its back, but after reading these posts, I think I'll leave it upright and see what happens. One less thing to do on a travel day. The desk chair can slide on its wheels, but with the slides in it has nowhere to go.

We lays ours on the bed. Couple of reasons: tile floor on slide, which sits about 4" in the air when retracted so our chairs do move around. Also, the chairs have decorative metal accents along the bottom backs and sides of the chairs which rub against the cabinets during traveling. Our coach did not come with tie down straps for them and we didn't want to put hooks, holes, etc in the cabinets.

Unless something unusual - most movement is due to breaking not acceleration. On my rig I had a non fixed table. Flipped chairs with back against table and slid whole mess toward couch so it would not shift.

My biggest worry in a crash would be the windshield either coming into my lap or being pushed out. I guess if the windshield is gone I have an easy escape route before the thing catches fire and begins to burn.............

LOL.
At least you can climb out the windshield and take the (unstrapped) dinning chairs with you to sit on while watching the coach burn to the ground

The hooks are one the chair legs, not the wall.

Same here, but we never use them.
Also have two extra foldups, jammed in behind them.
Nothing ever moves, but then I haven't collided with anything either.
Sure have made at least one panic stop though, with not giving it much thought and rightly so, I guess....

Our coach came with a velcro strap too that pulls the chairs together towards the table and they stay together.

I don't want the chairs to fly forward if I have to stop short, and I don't want the chair to rock back and hit the mirror if I accelerate too hard. These chairs a re pretty heavy.
So, does everyone with free-standing Chairs "lay them down" prior to driving off? I see a lot of Coaches with the same dining chair layout I have.

We have a Monaco Windsor wit table and chairs...it never occurred to us to lay chairs on their backs. But, like you, I don't want them to "fly" around the RV. The chairs remain at the table with a very short Bungie cordiales around one front leg of each chair. They have never move even a little bit. And yes they are fairly heavy too.
