Do you use a strap when leaving your Blue Ox on coach?

Those of you who do not remove your tow bar from the receiver when not in use, do you secure it with a bungee or a strap to keep it from rattling or moving? I have the Blue Ox Aladdin and although it folds horizontal to either side it seems it would rattle or move if on a bumpy road. Thoughts?

I have a BO Aventa tow bar. I cover it with a BO cover, but do not secure it. Have had it several years and many miles. But if a bungee makes you feel better, by all means use one.

I have a Demco Excalibar, I put in the storage bag. It is 40 feet behind me if I am moving, and the Cummins drowns out any rattle.

Same here. The cover prevents any movement. Since I have a drop hitch, I installed U bolt clamps to prevent the receiver sections from rattling. The clamps plus locking pins make the towbar virtually impossible to steal.

If it rattles, 30+ feet behind me.. I'm not going to hear it.

I just slip a blue ox cover over it to protect it from the rain, which is falling as I type. Spray it down with a bit of lubricant, and as the song says:
Let it be, Let it be, Let it be, Let it be.

It would be nearly impossible to hit a bump sufficient to knock it out of it's resting position. And if you hit such a bump... Well, The tow bar may be the least of your worries.

Maybe you should have it rebuilt, new bushings and tightened up. Might need to be checked could cause problems down the road pulling the toad. Jim

I second this motion. Mine was getting kind of loosy goosy so I sent it off to BO and they completely rebuilt it including a new ball Assembly which was in bad shape. This after about 20K miles mind you. I also cover it with the bag when folded.

I have traveled 1000s of miles with it unstrapped. Last year, early spring, we left Wife was following behind me to get fuel before a trip. I hit a big frost heave, it popped the Blue Ox out of the holder and it dragged on the pavement. Wife was flashing lights, beeping the horn for almost a mile before I realized it. Cover was shredded, tow bar was scratched up a little but we are still using it.

Short distances, uncovered and unstrapped. Long distances use the Blue Ox cover. Never a problem in over 9 years of fulltiming.

Thanks for the replies. I think mine could use an overhaul to tighten things up as others have suggested. I bought it from the owner of the coach I recently purchased so just getting things set up to tow. I'll be installing my towed base plate this weekend and will get to know it a little better real soon. There is an RV show in Houston where I live next month. Not sure if Blue Ox will be there and able to service it but I'll bring it along just in case.

You can go to their website and click on "Contact Us" and under it is a box for "Events". There is list of all the shows and other events that they will be in attendance. Looks like most are in Florida and Arizona now thru March.
