Hi Jay, Thanks for the hands on overview. I think most of us are willing to have a reasonable learning curve as long as the results are good.
Surprised to hear about the trouble importing to into your GPS. It would seem to me that's one thing they'd want right from the get go!

I'm not sure if it's "them" that haven't gotten it right, or me.

I use it - I like it - small learning curve but no IT degree needed.
I have even downloaded a trip or two on to my Garmin 760...
Really nice to put a long, multiple stop trip together.
Good luck, I do not think you will regret the purchase.

Interstates are usually blue or green on a map. State and US Hwys are usually red. We much prefer red roads and since we now have a much larger rv than the clas "B" we used to have the truckers atlas really helps. I figure if a 18 wheeler can use the road so can I.
PA is just my abbreviation for Passport America which we use a lot. Many of them are off the interstates and suit us on the red roads.

Hey George,
My DW and I have talked a lot about using the red roads and would like to ask if they work for your travel plans as expected? One thing I think about is if vehicle service for coach or toad is reasonable to come by?
Obviously the Wizard works for the red roads as well as the interstates and thats good new!

I am currently planning trips w this sw and with RVParky. I am not sure which I prefer. The latter is free. The one item I noticed quickly is the RVParky has many more campground options listed. Does anybody have opinions on RVParky? If so what was you major drawback?

It depends how flexible your travel plans are. If exact routes and specific campgrounds are your preference red roads may not work well for you. We have used them since we fulltimed for 3 years in 2001-2004.
We use the truckers atlas the night before to see what roads can get us where we want to go. Almost all state and US hwy's are ok trip wizard also shows low clearances. But by using roads suitable for 18 wheelers, we do not have to worry about that. I do however still look at trip wizard just to be aware of any low clearances in the event of a detour, change in plans, etc.
As far as vehicle service goes, our toad is a Ford Focus and the mh is also a Ford chassis. We do use Progressive insurance on the motorhome because of their towing benefit which will tow your vehicle to the nearest place capable of fixing the vehicle.
Planning trips becomes a joint effort and we really enjoy doing it together now. When we started doing it, DW was to say the least, not the best navigator and did not enjoy doing it. Practice makes perfect and she now takes the truckers atlas and finds ways around cities when I am driving.
We only use GPS for the last few miles to or going from a cg just to get us thru the side roads to and from the cg. We do have a RV specific GPS for that purpose and it routes us around roads not suitable for our rv.
Hope this helps, come join us on the red roads. So much more to see and do and far fewer trucks!

I just ordered RV Trip Wizard and will read their quick start guide (that you can download to your desktop) and set up my first trip. I'll let you know how I do and give my reaction.
Wish me luck, Harry

I use RVTW and like it. It allows you to modify a route easily. I've also downloaded the route created in RVTW to Google Maps and then to my cell phone. Instructions on RVTW are pretty clear on how to do this. However I've found that Google maps just takes the beginning and end points on your trip and creates it's own routing. So if you modify a route in RVTW and download it to Google maps it really doesn't recreate the route you created in RVTW.
I think this is also true when you download a trip created in RVTW to your GPS. The GPS creates the route from the beginning and end points you created in RVTW but does not use the route itself.

WyoFree - I hope you've had a good experience with RV Trip Wizard. I am part of the team that is working on improving this product. We are constantly working on improving it (adding features and fixing bugs). There are some major features planned for future releases and currently in the development process.
We find that the majority of the users find RV Trip Wizard easy to use after a little bit of reading or watching videos. There are some that it doesn't click for and we try to figure out how to make the software easier to use for everyone while maintaining the features that people request. As you make software with more features, it can get more complicated to use. Therefore, we try to balance the ease of use with functionality.
With regard to GPS's, there is only so much we can control. Some GPS units do not allow outside data to be imported into the units. The GPS manufacturer purposely excludes the ability to import a trip as they want to sell you a higher dollar unit. We have the ability to export trips in two commonly used standardized GPS formats. Both formats can be imported into Google Maps and then used on an Smartphone or tablet.
Best of luck with your planning and safe travels.

I use trip wizzard and like it. However I have not been able to download a trip created in trip wizzard and have it display on my Garmin GPS the same way as I created it in trip wizzard. It seems the departure and destination point on the trip are downloaded to my Garmin RV 660 but the GPS then creates it's own route between the departure and destination using the routing parameters set in the GPS and ignoring the route I created in trip wizzard.
Even if I clear all the routing parameters in the GPS the default parameters are used, still ignoring the route I created in trip wizzard.
Suggestions??
