Do you use your dishwasher ?

we are ordering a new coach. It is just my wife & I. We plan on using the coach to travel about 6 weeks at a time.

I was at both the Hershey & Tampa RV shows & most people we spoke with said they don’t use the dishwasher except for storage. IF YOUR NOT FULL TIME do you find you use the dishwasher? Would you order it or would you rather have the storage?

BTW: we are looking at ordering a 43' Newmar Dutch Star.

Like you I thought "gimmicky" at first. However our experience with the dishwasher has been great. Use it all the time and it is very quiet and cleans well. Fisher & Paykel is the brand on ours. We would not buy another coach that did not have one.

It doesn't seem to use much water per cycle and we run it while traveling (with generator on because we use the AC/Heat Pumps anyway), so when we get to where we are going clean dishes are good to go.

We use it almost every day when we are on extended trips. The size is good for a family of four (two adults and two kids), filling it with dirty dishes throughout the day and then running overnight. It is quiet enough to run even while the kids are sleeping right beside it, almost no noise at all.

Also we are not full time, and mostly camp without services (water, electricity, etc.). If you are worried about having to run the generator while washing you can time it with your charge cycle for the house batteries/inverter. It finished before our 2 hour charge cycle completes.

Happy shopping and best of luck on your new coach!

Not Full-Timers. And do not use the dishwasher (except for storage). Sorry to be predictable. \ken

You can always store stuff in the dishwasher, but cant wash dishes in a cabinet. I would opt for the dishwasher.

We have a dishwasher. I would trade it for an oven any day of the week!

No dishwasher. Requires more dishes unless you wash daily. DW and I do not mind hand washing and the extra storage is great.

We use our Fisher-Paykel Dishdrawer all of the time, frequently running while underway. It works great and probably uses less water than hand washing.

We use ours every day. If you have more than a few dishes, it will use less water than hand washing. The Fisher Paykal drawer units seem to do a great job.

My D/W uses her dish washer every day...me. We both prefer the storage room rather than a dish washer.

We are fulltimers and have one. Even if we were not fulltiming anymore we would still have one. We run it once a day, it's nice being able to have something to eat, rinse the dish and put it away in the Dishwasher.

How could I not reply to a StuartS?

Have dishwasher and will never be without one again. Uses less water than hand washing, considerable reduction in daily clutter on the counter, spotless results, and dead quiet running (Fisher-Paykel).

Do yourself the favor.

We have adding one on our To Do list. We do a mix of about 60% with hook ups, and 40% boondocking. It is the boondocking that has us interested in the DW, as it does use less water than conventional washing. (One note on this, and another poster mentioned the 'rinsing' before putting into the DW. We added 1 gallon be DW cycle, to the advertised DW cycle usage, and still feel we'd have less water consumption then conventional washing.

We also oversized our Solar Panel system, and will be able to run the DW cycle off of the inverter, and still have excess power charging the battery bank - in full sun shine.

It was third on our list of larger mod's, but slotted down to 4th when we decided to go to a residential fridge.

Best to all,
Smitty
