Doing your own service on your DP? What oil drain pan are you using?

First oil change...use a couple of 5 gal buckets. Install the Fumoto valve and save the 1 gallon jugs for the next oil change. Makes oil changes so much easier.

I can just crawl under mine, plenty of room. IMHO you don't need to be perfectly level if the slope is towards the drain plug. Out of level just affects the ability of the small portion of the bottom of the pan to drain completely, and with 17~34 quarts to replace, the amount left behind is minimal, comparatively speaking.

Also use Fumoto long nipple valve. Use a Jabsco Marine Oil chang pump and long clear hose. Hose on nipple, pump connected to batt (12v pump),open valve and turn on pump. Pumps directly into a 5 gal container. The pump is reversible, so i then pump 1 gal of cheap new oil backwards into oil pan and back into 1 gal container. Cleans last of old oil from pan. Then stick hose in clean oil and refill. Whole process after collecting supplies 45 min. No muss no fuss. Did it this way for years on my boats.

Have any of you guys considered pumping the used oil through a filter and pumping into the fuel tank. I believe Cummings allows up to 5% of lube oil to be used as fuel? I would rather use those BTUs of energy than dump it.

mike with a tube i pour it to one gallon empty oil jar directly one at a time. simple and easy.

Not sure but think I ordered from outfit called Quick Valve. Try putting in the basket and go to checkout. It might be offered then and its ~$3.00 or so. They may offer the plastic drain hose then too (which you can buy at the hardware store). Hope that helps.

I use a large rubber pan about 24 inches in dia and about 8 inches high. (actually a horse feeder pan) I then bought a huge funnel from Walmart. When I remove the drain plug I hold the funnel in place so the oil all goes into the drain pan. No mess. Once all drained I move it over and do the same when removing the filter.

steve interesting question... not sure but even though allowed to use 5% lube oil i guess it means cleaned and filtered oil, not used engine oil out of drainage. the soot and particles in it could kill pump and injectors. i use wasted vegeteble/cooking oil for my mb cars, it works but i have to filter it to 2 micron and dewater it thorowly. personally i wouldn't risk my big block to use the black stuff

Filtering for re-use seems like more trouble and expense than it's worth to get maybe 3 gallons of fuel.

I recently bought the same unit Dennis has. 58 quart crude control oil drain container for 70 bucks. I can drain my oil, trans and coolant from the motor home, tractor, forklifts, cars, trucks and motorcycles and easily haul it in the back of the truck to the reclamation center.

If you figure 7.2 lbs/gal x 14.5 gals = 104.5 lbs

Can you heft that much on to a recycling tank?
