Dometic Awning Arm Replacement

2008 Winnebago Destination with the Sunchaser Awning on the passenger side slide out. The hook rafter claw has failed with replacement parts no longer available.

The awning itself is in good condition. Leaving replacement of the awning arms. Might as well get two new ones to perhaps get another good ten years?

Is this a reasonable DIY project?

Can the installed awning be left securely mounted in place while replacing the arms?

What else needs to be considered?

IF work load permits, will be calling Dometic's service department next week.

You'll need to support the roller......maybe a couple ratchet straps looped around something on the roof and the roller........and, you need to pin the roller to it's end caps to keep the rollers spring wound up.....I would do all work with the arm replacement and pinning with the awning almost closed......don't want to open or close with the roller pinned.....check U Tube for a video.....
