Dometic Refrigerator Problem

Hello,
Hoping we can get some advice here. Our Dometic side by side (Z door) refrigerator stopped cooling. We are on a trip visiting family and parked in their driveway which is on a slant. Leveled the coach(we thought level enough) but the next day it stopped cooling. We shut it down and moved it to a campground and tried to restart it. It will no cool. the only digital message is "Hi" Trying to figure out what it means in the manual. Ammonia level Hi??

We are checking fuses, fans, etc. The only thing we can think of is it was not completely level and the coolant clogged up. We will head home this week and will have our repair people look at it.

We have an extended warranty with a deductible. 2007 Monaco Knight Class A Diesel P. Any similar experience?
Thank you in advance

the coolant is in the form of either a gas or liquid... changing between the two is what makes it work.... if you are smelling ammonia than for sure you have a failure... once charged they have a limited life.... for this system to work.. it needs a heat source.. in the case of gas heat (propane) the fridge has to be very level to so that the flame will direct itself onto the area it needs to heat... when on electricity.. (120vac) there is a heating element that will come on...

In all cases, there is a 12 vdc control circuit that monitors what goes on... and can/will switch back and forth between gas/electric...

I can see where you might have changed the propane tank.. and have an air lock, so turning on/off several times would purge the air... I usually light the range to make sure gas is flowing correctly... or you might just be out of propane...

In the case of electric power... you need both 12vdc as a control voltage and 120vac to power the electric heater.. an ohm meter can test the heater to see if it functions...

I can answer more of your questions if you have them... hope this helps..

Thank you so much! I will give this info to the Hubby - he is working on it today. I was afraid because we may have had it unlevel for a bit that the coolant clogged and ruined the fridge.

I have the same fridge and have had the same problem. Look outside the coach behind the cover at the back of the fridge. On the left side near the bottom you will see 2 red wires going into a round (overheat switch). In the middle of the switch is a reset button, push it and if you hear/feel a click then this is why it's not cooling. This switch shuts off power to the control board if there's an overheat issue (sometimes caused by coach not being level and boiler overheats).

Hopefully this fixes it for you.

well it didn't make an audible click but we pulled the red wire closest to us and replugged after switch set and the burner for the propane ignited which it wasn't doing before - now there is a different code ch on freezer and Hi on fridge side - looking that up now.

I believe it may be reading 'ch LP' for check the LP line and supply to make sure you are getting LP to the fridge. The 'Hi' is just telling you that the compartment temperatures are warmer than 41F in freezer and 59F in fresh food compartment.

You might also try electric. Either plugged in or by running the generator.

What model fridge do you have? NDA 1402? If so, here is the link to the manual if you don't already have it.

DOMETIC NDA1402 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS MANUAL Pdf Download.

Thank you - I believe that may have been part of the problem - the propane. Because when we d/c'd and reconnected the wires and reset switch to the propane it re-lit and it did start cooling after that. Today it is back to normal!!!!! Thanks for all the tips. I will keep them in our files. We learn something new everyday.
