My wife and I have noticed the same thing while looking at new coaches. They ALL seem to have king size beds in them. But our 2006 40' Holiday Rambler has a queen bed and night stands on both sides of the bed. In the new coaches there is NOWHERE to put your phone or an alarm clock or radio or a book or whatever. I just can't imagine that they polled the buying public and the majority of people said they would trade a larger mattress for the night stands. Doesn't everybody read in bed? Or at least need a place to lay the TV remote??

We converted ours from a King to Queen. We took 6" from each side of top board. The harder part was reducing the size of the base. We were only able to reduce by 3" on each side due to the floor access to engine. Pay particular attention to this or you may cover the access. Process is not difficult. Our King was only 80" long the same as the queen so we did not have to reduce length.

We are VERY happy with the resulting room to maneuver.
