Door hold open device?

I doubt anyone here has a Europa, but I figure this should be a generic question. Our main coach door only has a 2 pc flat bar to keep the main door from opening too far. (hopefully) It does nothing to keep the door open, or flopping around in the wind. (probably missing a piece) But a friend who has the same exact yr/model sent me pics of his gas filled shock, (name?) so I have part numbers of what to buy.
My question is how to measure/mark for the new brackets ? Seems like the door needs to be closed to do this. ?? Anybody have a good easy way to do this ?? Thanks !

Sorry this may sound simplistic . Call him back , send him to his unit with a tape measure.

In addition to the length you need to know what pressure the strut is on his. There should be a Part Number on the strut as well. They normally range from 20# to 80#. Too much and it will be very hard to close the door.

You also mignt not have enough clearance for a device like that between the top of the door and the door opening. I,m pretty sure that my MH would not.
