Door Prop open device

I love to open the coach door, it has a nice screen but there is no mechanism to keep the door from swinging in the wind.

Have you conjured up a device to hold the door open?

Love to see pictures too.

A recent post had pictures of a gas strut ( short ) installed to keep the entry door open ; I'll see if I can track it down.

Don’t have a picture but I made a bolt head like the one on the door frame that the latch attaches to. This bolt goes in the door latch, is attached to a rod that goes to the front mirror and solidly supports the door in an open position.

Would something like this not work, or am I missing the quesrion? Holds my door open while screen is closed.

That's what my door has and it works out well.

My Class A door hinges in the corner next to the windshield so when open there is no wall to hook the door to. That amazon latch worked well with my old class C.

I see only 2 options: a bar to the right side mirror or a bar at the top that I would pass under as I go down the steps.

Other Ideas?

An '07 Country Coach and no door holder of any sort? I'm shocked! Even my 1990 5W and 1996 Southwind coach had the plastic arm type, and the next two had automatic mechanisms that just held it in place when open.

I've had the wind catch the door 4 times opening it. Luckily I thought ahead and added I strap at the top to reduce damage opening the door too far on my DP.
This is far worse problem than door not staying open.
If it's too windy and gets pushed closed, I leave it closed and open some windows.

gpounder,

Are you looking for a fixed connection in addition to the top gas strut? My 99 wouldn't stay open when I got it, but once I installed a new gas strut works great. If you do have the gas strut, just needs to be replaced

My '09 CC has a "door check" like a car door that gives the door a stop point at mid opening and at full opening. That said, it's no match for winds!

Perhaps a black (discrete) bungee cord around the mirror arm and to the door edge or handle pull would suffice.

Here’s the rod I made. The end with the bolt goes in the latch and the horseshoe end goes around the arm just below the mirror.

Thanks for the good ideas. I have ordered a gas strut. It seems to be the best no hassle permanent solution.

The door has a limiting devise but that does not hold it in one place.

This setup has worked very well for me.

PROJECT: DOOR PROP (FROM THE OUTSIDE)

Aluminum Bar w/90-degree ends... Use one of Winnebago's part numbers below.

On our 2004 Itasca "Horizon" I use the 12.7" bar: # 127647-02-01A

Here's the Winnebago part numbers for three different lengths.

127647-02-01A is 322 mm long (12.7”)
127647-01-01A is 452 mm long
127647-03-01A is 494 mm long

Be sure and use stainless steel fasteners and a stainless steel padeye.

Notice I installed the rod down low on the door, this way the screws are in the door frame, the other padeye is on fiberglass and it should be plenty strong. I would have used a backer plate but I didn't bring a saw with me to cut a small piece of wood.
