Maybe. Most door switches are magnetic rather than contact types, but there definitely will be a switch that controls the step.

Of course you mean the steps won't retract when they are supposed to; as in the switch is in retract-when-door-closes (a position I NEVER use), or the ignition is on. My steps are controlled by a magnet switch on the screen door, in the middle at the top. It looks like a small white rectangle, with another small white rectangle mounted on the door jam just opposite it. Actually, the one on the screen door is the magnet, the one on the door jam is the switch. As the magnet gets close to the switch, it pulls the switch closed. It's gotta get pretty close to function. Steal a magnet from someplace and hold it near the switch on the door jam, the steps should retract if everything is set correctly.

The two spring loaded contacts in the door jam are for the key-less entry system to lock and unlock the entry door.

You need to find a magnetic switch in the opposite door jam which consists of two parts, one installed flush into the door jam and one installed flush into the door. Mine are round like THESE.
