DP engine cutting out (???)

Used our DP several times in the last month without issue. This trip was a stressful one. It kept intermittently cutting out (like it was missing) when accelerating. The Warning light on the panel would come on briefly or blink once or twice then stop. We were thankful we made it to our destination and hope we will make it home. Can't for the life of us figure out what the problem is.

Anyone every had this same issue. It is a 2002 Monaco Diplomat.

First thought are fuel filters.

Went through a simular experience on mine recently. Thought it was filters or bad fuel. Changed the filters several times. Ended up being the high pressure fuel pump. $$$$$$$$ hope it's just filters in yours.

Check air/fuel filter and if it keeps doing it then check lift pump

Check fuel filters. Mine was doing that also. Replaced filters and it cured the problem.

Had similar issues ....word to the wise make sure you replace both filters! In our particular case the primary fuel filter aka the Razor was not visible and was tucked up in the chassis behind something and totally surrounded by wires. It took three visits to three different diesel repair sites to finally resolve the issue. To make matters worse when they finally located the filter ...it was the original one from 2008! After all the time, money and frustration the MH is running like new again.

Made an appt with Cummins service center on Sep 4. Hope it is just the fuel filters. They also said filter is first thing to check. Just hope we make the 3 hour trip back and they said it is safe to drive it. Will check back and let everyone know.

In a deal like this one regarding suspected filters (3 hour ride home) , something to consider if you haven't already? Many times the engine will run fine if you'll slow it down/reduce the load on it (requires less fuel). In other words, if you're having trouble at 65mph, it might get you by for this one trip if you slow to 55. Plugged filters generally restrict the fuel flow - but don't cut it off completely.

It's a Racor. My post from the other thread:

My experience with FLs chassis on the route trucks was that this filter was installed on FL chassis for the ISB engines from 1996 through 2004.

Continued operation with partially plugged fuel filters can cause the expensive injector pump to fail prematurely. The fuel filters should be changed per Cummins maintenance schedule, or annually, whichever comes first. Store with the fuel tank full to minimize moisture condensation in the tank, + only buy fuel from high-volume stations and minimize future fuel problems.

I am driving the car home separately instead of towing. We will reduce the speed. We have a service paper from previous owner showing fuel filter was changed in April 2012. Probably should have had it changed when we got it (so much to learn). Took 3 trips so far this summer (all 3 hours long each way) and it has run perfectly.

Can fuel filters clog up that quickly? Guess we will find out soon.

Just want to get it back in our area at this point.

The answer is yes they can plug up that soon depending on the quality of the fuel that is in the tank. Normal change interval should be at least once a year. Most diesels have two fuel filters and that is why I highlighted the "fuel filter" in your post. My guess is there is a primary fuel filter such as I described "Racor" that needs to be changed and hasn't been prior to this. JMHO and not trying to be right.
