DP Question: How often do you change your air filter?
I have a 2008 Tiffin Allegro Bus, with 425 Cummins ISL on a Spartan Chassis.
At a recent event, Spartan was on site, and told me very sternly that I should replace my Air Filter every year. They said it is a paper air filter inside the metal tube, and that moisture from rain and humidity will severely impact the life expectancy. So, regardless of the miles or usage, change out my Air Filter every year as part of the annual maintenance.
So, how often do you change your Air Filter?
Do you buy an OEM Air Filter? Is WIX, Fram or Rayco an acceptable substitute?
My unit uses a Spartan #0420-HH2 Filter

Every three years, which = ~ 15,000 miles. Maybe I should rethink.

Every other year for me. We travel the upper midwest / west, low humidity, don't travel on dirt roads, average 8-9K miles / year. I use Racor ECO-BC 094973007, purchase from local Freightliner center, $102 last time

I have been using paper element filters and changing yearly.
I'm considering switching to a K&N air cleaner with permanent, cleanable element. About three times as expensive but has a 3 year life so the end cost would be about the same.
The benefit, as I see it, would be to eliminate the potential problem of a moisture damaged paper element disintegrating and damaging the engine.
Still trying to decide before my next annual service.
Take care,
Stu

Why try to outguess what the manufacturers say about maintenance? The designed, built and tested the equipment and are the best source of info. If you decide not to follow it.....well good luck.

….so do you change the paper air filter on your car every year too--bet not.....I know the reusable filters are popular but suggest getting a second or third opinion before switching.....
PS air intake design on some RV brands/models can contribute to water ingestion....

Spent the money on a reusable K&N filter. When it's dirty, I clean and dry it. Lasts forever.

Every two years as recommended by the manufacturer. Some folks eschew the K&N filters because of the particulate size they will allow to pass. I will stick with the filters recommended by Cummins. Recommend you look into the K&N a little deeper.

My filter is removed and inspected every year, but replaced every 2-3 years depending on the inspection. The only engine I ever owned that began using excessive oil was when we tried a K&N on a Ford diesel service truck. It was in dusty conditions and the paper filter would plug up in 1500 miles. The K&N would go for 5-6,000 miles before the bulb said to replace or clean. After 20,000 miles with the K&N the engine was burning a quart of oil in 400 miles. We found the tube from the filter location to the intake manifold coated with a dust film. I use a K&N on my offroad Jeep due to space limitation, but never again in my cars or trucks.
