DrainMaster electric waste valve - is this bad?
Last weekend after camping when I went to dump the tanks, the Black Tank valve would not open. I used the allen wrench to manually open it, then it worked fine after that. At home, I decided to look into this further (is it a mechanical issue or maybe electrical). So operating it at home it opens and closes but the motor sounds a little slow compared to the Grey Tank valve.
So I have a replacement valve (left in the coach when I bought it). I pulled that valve out but after looking more closely at it I don't think it is useable. When the valve is closed all the way I can see light on both sides of the blade.
Surely this is not good. I am surprised that the valve would wear out in such a way.
What else is odd (by design) is that the blade does not fully slide in the slot in the valve body. The sides where the yellow arrow point and the tip do not have a groove for the blade to fit into so when it closes it only presses against the body where the arrows are to seal. I can understand the tip not having a groove, but the sides should - you would think.

DrainMaster electric waste valve - is this bad?
That’s the way they are supposed to look. The part it mates up to fills those slots
There is also a special grease to use before you put it in ..
You can take the old one out and clean it up soak it in a solution drain master sells .. the tracked get bunked up .. the maker drain master has a web site with all this info.

DrainMaster electric waste valve - is this bad?
On second look you should also have two rubber seals that go on the flanges on either side of the new valve .. they are pretty insistent that the old ones shouldn’t be reused
I replaced my black tank valve last summer. Because of where the marquis mounted them behind the water manifold panel it was a major pita

Drainmaster seals are specific to their valves, you cannot use other brands, order more than one set, so your ready for next time! Dave

When the seals are installed, those side slots are covered.

Thanks. I ordered the Drain Master cleaning kit (cleaning fluid and seals) and packet of the special lube.

I never had any luck cleaning the Drain master valves even using their cleaners. I carried a spare, I installed the spare and let the dirty valve soak in the cleaner and it really didn't help. I tried it on a couple drain master valve over the years, always had to replace them. And yep that's the way the valve is designed- open on the sides.

The valve in the photo, is the "spare" (left for me by previous owner). I just don't know if it's any good yet.
So I will remove the valve that is installed, clean both and run them open/closed (without installing) to see which sounds better (motor wise) then install the best of the two.
This is the time to do it, while the tank is empty and clean.
