Dang! But it gives me hope. I'll try the various manufacturers again.
Thanks

Superior Driveline can help. www.remcodsc.com. If it’s a two piece shaft you usually just replace rear section of shaft from center u-joint back.

Will check it out. For now, it appears the cost for everything it'd take (brakes, tow bar, base plate, yada, yada) would far outstrip the advantage. But I'll see.

We've had one on our Tracker for 10-11 years now and 80k+ miles. I had the driveshaft modified at a local drive line shop and installed it myself. It has always worked fine, but last year I had the bearings replaced at the same local drive line shop.
We had one from Trail Tough Suzuki on the Samurai we pulled before the Tracker that was mounted on the transfer case and didn't require "indexing" in order to maintain u-joint alignment. I think it was only made for the Samurai. IMHO, the only downside to the Remco is that with the disconnect essentially between the u-joints the indexing requires a bit of "grinding" to engage. I don't like that, but on the other hand it has never damaged anything.

I had a disconnect installed on my 89 5.0 mustang convertible w auto trans. Worked well for towing, no problems. To reduce the indexing grind issue I installed a momentary push button wired to the starter under the drivers seat. I could "bump" the trans via the starter to align the splines. Purchased a shortened drive shaft on line and had a local mechanic install it and the disconnect.

I put one on a Nissan Frontier and it worked great. As noted, keep the shift mechanism, on the driveshaft, clean and lubricated and it will work great. I often connected and disconnected the driveshaft by rocking the truck back and forth with one leg out the door.
Note:.....When I did mine, I ordered a new driveshaft and added my yoke to it. They say try the driveshaft and see if it needs balancing. I balanced mine when it arrived. Since the disconnect can engage in two different positions on the driveshaft, 180 degrees apart, I had the driveshaft shop balance it in both positions.

Good ideas for engaging the disconnect with a minimum or no grinding. I'll have to try that.
