Lightbulb Driver/dash console ideas --pics please

I want to upgrade my dash or specifically the center console draw area.

I know I need drink holders for sure, I can take out the useless draw and finish it completely different.

I have a full wood shop and can make pretty much anything.

If you can post pics and throw some ideas out there I would appreciate.

Lastly what items do you keep handy like say a flashlite.......

What's in your drawer at present? That drawer is awfully low to use as a drink holder. We have flip down drink holders on the walls next to driver and passenger seat. I have a box I made a long time ago for between the seats of a VW bus we had. It now sits beside driver's seat and doesn't intrude into aisle to the steps. It has two drink holders in the top and the flip up lid hides lots of things stowed inside. Used to have a CB fastened to the front of the box, I removed that sometime in the '80's. The box contains flashlight, USB charge cords, tire pressure gauge, napkins, maps, notepad, pens, etc.

I think anything you mount in place of that drawer that protrudes will be in your pathway when you try to get out of the driver's seat. My cockpit is virtually identical.

I have a cheap plastic cupholder mounted on the driver's left side held in place with one of the existing screws.

I also have a small table with the height slightly above the top of the drawer that we place in front of the drawer if we're sharing a snack while going down the road. We then move the table when we stop.

I hope you get some better suggestions.

Fred

Hi Fred nice to hear from you, I think if designed correctly there enough room to get around something.

While you have it all apart - add a fuse block with it's power source side switched. Run all nav devices (dash cam, gps, cameras, video monitor, tpms etc) to fuse block. When your parked in your space - flip one switch and turn everything off.

How about making an insert that fits inside the drawer that can hold cups?

Well I think I just remove the current drawer completly see if the opening can be made wider, then add two drawers one about 4-5" in height, the other can be like a drawer but more of a tray

see the pic I found.

I also made a list of items that I want to have built in or in the immediate area.

drink holders
flash lite
cell phones that can be plugged into charge and still display to see who's calling easily
Nav lite (small just to find items)
sun reading glasses
Laptop with Silverleaf on top of console?
tissue dispenser
pens/pencil
gps
gas cap keys
tire guage
tire system TPMS

I know all will not fit but I was going to make a cardboard temp to see how it lays out.

I'm a junkyard loving kind of guy...

Lots of cupholders in cars there. Early 90's Ford Taurus used cup/coin holder that fits in a standard DIN radio opening:

A google image search finds all sorts of pop out cup holders. It would be something I'd consider....

If the drawer slides open I'd just put a piece of wood across the top and add holes for cupholders..the plastic inserts are available online at boating supply stores.
