Drivers side duals 50 degrees warmer than other tires

Just got back from camping in the mountains after purchasing a digital laser temperature gauge. When I arrived home I jumped out to test it on my tires of my 97 Bounder with F53 chassis with tag axle and large slide on drivers side Most of them were around 120-130 degrees with driver steer about 10 degrees higher but drivers dual particularly inside tire was over 180 F. The tag right behind was only 120 F. Hub and rims seemed no warmer than other side. Should I be alarmed or make adjustment to tag or air pressure. Tires are 235/85r16

I was running 80# cold. When I checked it just after coming off hi way it was at 92# as where all the tires

My guess would be extra weight on that side and area. Only way I know to check would be to have it weighed using individual wheel scaless.

I'll second on the weight but also I believe the inside tire temperature is reflecting an external heat source; exhaust of drive engine and/or generator.

Was the hub on that side any hotter? It could be a brake caliper that is hanging up and generating heat.

I guess I will have to figure out how to get the tires weighed individually. The hub seemed to be normal temp ( about 90 F). Exhaust is on the other side. After looking around on the Internet i guess 180F doesn't seem to bad but upwards of 250F would be catastrophic. Does that sound right? Or would there be any issues with premature wear?

Here is a link to a previous post I have on using a CAT scale to get 4 corners. If you have a TAG, then you will have a couple challenges but can still use a CAT scale.

I have measured the tire temperatures the same way for years. I found out right away that the tires on the sunny side were always 10-20 degrees hotter than the other side but never 50 degrees more.

Your tires on the dual rims are matched I hope?? If one is larger than the other it will carry more weight and possibly be overloaded.

We had a similar situation occur a couple of months ago and the culprit turned out to be a brake problem on the front passenger side wheel! I think the braking system was attempting to compensate for the front brake problem and was working the driver's side rear wheel hard. I know it sounds crazy, but once we got the brake repaired the temperature difference issue went away.

Just took the Bounder out to the sani dump and had a closer look at the tires. Someone mentioned making sure the tires on the dual were the same size. They are the exact same model and size but I noticed the inner one looked bigger. Looking closer at the tread I could see the outside tread was not making contact with the road. Using a woodworking tool to measure profiles I could easily see that it was bulging in the middle. I am wondering if the valve extension is giving me a false reading on the PSI. I seem to recall having troubles filling and measuring before. I let out about 40# but it did not change the look of the profile. I will take it for a short drive later and check again.

Has anyone else had problems with valve extensions before?

Thanks for the replies. I guess I might have to take it to a tire shop soon if I can't figure this out.

ME too

Sunny side makes a big difference You can see it by checking the outside dual on the sunny side and then checking the inside dual.
