I had the crossfires but made the error of mounting them to the center axle cover. While going almost 70 and passing a semi in NC last January the drivers rear axle cover flew off, taking the crossfire "gauge" with it and breaking both lines to those rear tires and causing them to go flat. It handled so well, it took me seconds to realize that funny noise was coming from us....I first thought it was coming from the semi. I pulled over and checked the toad before seeing the flat tires on the RV.
That was the end of my crossfire use. Anyone want\need my leftover one?

My cats eye equalizer are mounted to a bracket that is on a wheel stud and held in place by the lug nut. It isn't going anywhere.
I can't even imagine mounting them on the center cap as they have some weight to them.... In fact if I remember right, the install instructions tell you to only install them with the bracket under a lug nut.
Having it fly off the wheel and break the air lines and causing two flat tires was a very dangerous situation for you but sounds like you handled it very well!
