Duct mastic to seal roof seams?

Can the mastic used to seal HVAC duct seams in a stick house be used to seal RV roof seams? I know it is air tight and flexible but do not know about being outside. I would of course cover the mastic with something like Kool Seal or such? Any ideas, anyone try this rube idea?

The only things to seal roof seams are Dicor or Eternabond tape. I would not try to use A/C duct mastic.

+1

I doubt that mastic designed for indoor use has anti-UV stabilizers.

I have seen videos of Duct tape being used for RV window replacement and I know they use it for the roof vents. So I would think so. Here is a video of a window reseal which they recomend the same product that is used in HVAC ductworl.

Nice video on the window fix. But that is not duct tape. Do a search on this site and on youtube for eternabond. Many many recommendations for permanent roof repair using eternabond.

+1 Eternabond and Dicor. Anything else is penny-wise and pound-foolish.

Appreciate all the responses. Like not trying to re-invent the wheel. Using products for something they are not designed for. Like say using a floor polish on the outside of fiberglass RV's. I mean, what are the chances of that working, right? Thanks again.

Thanks for this link. Good information on replacing seal on windows. And there are also links to other repairs that will be helpful. I have resealed windows with the putty tape shown here successfully. But what I am trying to do is to seal roof seams.

As someone familiar with duct mastic... NO. You want your roof to be clean and nice looking. YOu will never get that look with mastic. Besides eternabond tape is uv and waterproof. Do it once for less than $200 in materials and tools.

I think the question was concerning replacing the weatherstripping around a window that leaked not roof repair. Eternabond for roof repair yes, But you would use exactly what they are using to fix a window leak. The putty strip. Dont think eternabond would work to fix a leaky window. It might but it would surely look like hell..
