ECM

Looking for some thoughts. Had a 20.000 mile service and oil change after a two month trip. When I picked up the rig the check engine light was on. It wasn’t on when I brought it in for service. I called the servicing shop from the road and was told to keep an eye on the gauges and bring it back next week. I had to make a quick trip to Mich. and then brought it back to the NJ service shop.

Three days later I received a call and was told that the ECM was showing an injector not firing and that I needed a new ECM.

I was quoted $1,800 for the unit and to have Freightliner program it another $250. I have an extended warranty but they will not pay the complete cost of the ECM and none of the programing fee from Freightliner. Am I getting hosed???

I would get a second and third opinion. Something isn't right.

Changing an ECM because of a false injector report (is it really false?) would be a last resort. More likely something is wrong in the sensor subsystem that generates the report. I wouldn't spend that kind of money without a firmer idea that the ECM is really at fault. They won't take it back is it isn't the solution.

Thanks for everyone’s input. The rig is a 2007 Damon Tuscany CAT 350 on a Freightliner chassis. I have used this RV shop for 6 years and never felt like I was getting hosed. My question is, and I could use some advice, is it possible when i had the service done that the TECH could have caused this problem somehow?

Have them reset system, then see if light comes back on,also see if they can tell you what trouble code was.

Disconnect your main chassis battery and see if ECM resets and trouble clears.

I just spoke with them and they said they did try to resent the ECM with no success. They told me error was an injector current fault. I'm not familiar with any of this. Any thoughts?
