EGR Bi Pass kit

Had a Cummins mechanic out to replace a couple seals today, and was telling me their is an EGR bi pass kit that removes the EGR. Said they do it on a lot of the big 18 wheel rigs. Has anyone heard of doing this?

I've googled problems with the ISX and it's taken me to a guy named Rawze (I think) who shows a lot of guys how to do the bypass. One thing I noted is in many cases it does light the CEL light but does not cause a derate. I've yet to talk to someone who's actually done it.

They do it on ford 6.0 all the time. From what I understand, silicates in the antifreeze form and clog the egr cooler. Their are several kits available for the ford or you can add a coolant filter to solve the problem. Not sure if its same issue on cummings. If it was Im sure i would have heard about it from my son as we sold the ford and bought a dodge. On the big boys, I haven't a clue.

I just read that the isc has a coolant filter so that would preclude silicates developing in the coolant. Not sure if the coolant issue is the same reason you would want to bypass the egr.
