Electric awnings use

I have an A&E Weatherpro with wind sensor. Like the others above I never tie it down or leave it unattended. I have a remote for both patio and entry door awning. I have the wind sensor that will close just the patio awning.

My previous RV, a 1993 Pace Arrow Diesel pusher had the A&E manual awning. I'm very please with the Weatherpro!

ONLY problem I have, Looking at the awning when is retracting... The arm on the right, at the bottom is off about a 1/16 of an inch and "snaps" into place. I'd love to figure out how to properly adjust.

Two weeks ago while at the lake with the grandkids, we had a sudden gust of wind that raised my free standing canopy up on one leg (that Broke) and activated the wind sensor on my Dometic and closed it. If I had it tied down in any way, I might also be telling a story of how badly my coach was damaged. From now on if I am away or asleep it will be closed, raining or not.

I also became aware of something last night I was thinking about that picture of the awning I posted and I could see the strap for the tie down anchor on the edge of the roller tube and what I didn't think about was when the wind hit the awning and pulled those auger anchors out I'll bet those are what flew up and punched the little holes in the roof because I couldn't figure out how the awning legs/rafters could do that.

There were tears from the legs/rafters in the roof too, but I couldn't figure out how those almost like holes were punched, now I know.

I do not own an electric awning.

The reason for such an awning is to make it easy to extend and retract.

A remote control on a key fob might be a great addition for those rainy events when you cannot open the awning from the inside of the rig because you are outside of the rig.

Girard, the maker of our awning, makes it very clear that its products are sunshades and are not intended for rain protection; if you have a key fob controller the only thing you can safely do with it in the rain is retract the awning!

I do not deactivate the wind sensor feature. I never tie the awning down or attach any objects to the awning. I always close the awning when left unattended and when experiencing or expecting moderate to heavy winds or rain. I routinely close the awning overnight, and when I occasionally forget have had to do so a number of times during the night due to unanticipated inclement weather.
IMO these preemptive actions apply generally to all electric awnings (and manual awnings for that matter), as well as slide toppers, particularly on larger slide-outs, during more severe weather conditions.
Who needs the potential grief and expense that can be avoided by the minimal time it takes to close the awning?

I have a coach from the same manufacturer and they chose A&E which is "junk". I replaced my manual awning on my previous coach with a fully electric "other brand" (Colorado?) and had great success with it. It would retract even with a sun screen on it. My present A&E won't fully retract if the awning was exposed to the sun (got warm). It appears that the motor sensor is set too light. I even replaced the motor ($555.00) without any change. It is good for shade only. I always close it if we go away from the coach for a few minutes - I don't trust it. Leave it on automatic unless you are parking the unit for a period of time in 30.f or less temp - will set of an alarm.

My A&E Weatherpro works w/o issue on my rig. I also have the awning over the door, both work as advertised. I alsdo have the key fob to retract/extend both.

My Dometic A&E WeatherPro Power Awning with wind sensor and Oasis Elite Door Awning, with combination key fob remote, both work as advertised as well - "touch wood". My original comments (Post #11) were intended to emphasize the best practice of closing both patio and door awnings when left unattended, overnight or in actual or anticipated inclement weather (including temperatures below 32* F), to reduce the risk of unnecessary damage. All in accordance with the applicable Owner's Manuals.

Our A&E over the door awning does not have a wind/temperature sensor, so does not retract automatically in that sense. Accordingly, I am more likely to close the door awning sooner than the patio awning when conditions warrant.
To extend the door awning, the remote control key fob "open" button or remote rocker switch must be pressed and held until the awning is fully extended. Otherwise it remains in the position when the button is released. If the "close" key fob button or rocker switch is pressed and held for a few seconds then released, the door awning will "automatically" close completely. If the button/switch is not initially held down, the awning remains in the position when the button is released and continues to close if the button is pressed again.
Please excuse the verbiage - probably more information than you were seeking...

Same setup as our Empress. Apparently the over the door awning can be set up to also close with the wind sensor. I will look into the wiring when I have more time down "south" this winter. I didn't know about holding it down for a few seconds - I thought one had to hold it down constantly.

Now wondering if holding the close button of the remote down for a few seconds then releasing will result in the big awning continuing to close after releasing the button.
