Electric steps

1990 Pace Arrow Fleetwood I put my new steps on 4 years ago and they still move when going up and down them. Also I changed the switch button out that is suppose to lock them out but it don't. But now that I have the motorhome unplugged and there no electricity going to it they are locked and not moving!!!"WHY want they do that with elecricity hooked up to it".

They can't move if they don't have power. By moving when you go up and down them, do you mean they go in and out, or do you mean they're spongy meaning they are not firm when you step on them?
As for the switch, it seems that you have a wiring problem.

Some switches won't completely lock out the steps. When our switch is off the steps will come out if they are not out and the door is opened. After they are out they stay out until the ignition is turned on while the door is closed, then they go in. Hope this helps.

they try to go in. so I step side ways to keep from slipping down them.My steps used to lock out when I press the button down, but when the switch broke and I changed it and got a new one with 3 prongs to plug up too. when the screen door closes the steps go in regardless of witch way the button is press. If anyone has any Ideas of somethings to check with my meter I am all ears.

Thanks Betty

My steps also do feel spongy not firm when I step on them, so I thought about buying some of those stabilizer to go under them to help support them and maybe keep them from moving in. Betty

Is the replacement switch you installed an exact replacement? My guess is the switch is not the right type. I've never had a problem with my steps so I don't know how they are wired. I would guess however that the wire from the screen door 'closed' sensor goes to one of the side prongs of the switch. I'd try swapping the wires going to the outside prongs and see if that solves the problem assuming it is the correct switch.
