I did something stupid (not the first time and not the last) on my new to me 2007 Bounder 38P. I had went in to start it and closed the door and the steps retracted - as they should. After starting the coach I went to go back out and stepped out before the steps could go out all the way. THey proceeded to make a loud grinding type noise - but eventually went out all the way but kept make the noise for a few more seconds after they had fully extended. They now make the same noise when they retract. Any ideas on how to address this?

When is the last time someone sprayed grease on the moving parts?

The gears inside the gear box under the motor are made of aluminium and were out. You can take it apart and rotate the round gear 180 and put it back togeather. When I did this it lasted for another two years but then I had to replace it.

As far as greasing it - I have no idea. The steps worked fine prior to me stepping on them before they had a chance to fully extend.

As you have already found out, not s good practice to step on the steps until they are all the way out, very good chance that the gears will strip and by the sounds your hearing, you most likely have. As previously suggested, you can rotate the gears and will work for you , be sure to clean all broken material out and grease before reassemble. I have to remind myself all the time to wait for the steps.

It does have a motor with gears. They do wear over time. They are not that difficult to take apart. The motor is the same one used for electric window in a ford car. do you know what brand step you have?

It's a Kwikee power step

I know mine broke and almost dumped me on the ground when I stepped on them while they were going out - my wife said I looked like a ballerina

these sheared the main pin holding the gear open - Lippert had a recall for them and so I got new steps...

As a replacement step motor was one of things I just did in the last few months I can tell you that Amazon had by far the best prices. I can also tell you that going by the manual is not always the best. As was said, they are easy to take out. Take it out and take a pic, or have it with you, to make sure you are ordering the correct gear assembly.
