Electrical problem

First of all let me tell you all how much I appreciate the help I receive on this site.

Now on to my problem. I am getting a rattling sound when I try to start the generator or lower the levellers. I thought it was the house batteries. I charged both and they are reading 12 volts. This motorhome is new to me (within a couple months) so even the basic things will help. Any ideas?

What RV do you have, your sig line is empty and would help for others with similar product mfg.

Rattling is usually associated with mechanical things, can't be good with electrical.

Have someone else try to start it while you are closer to the source of the rattle.
Might be a solenoid (relay). Perhaps you'll be able to hear better.

Have you tried to deploy the levelers with the engine running? If so, what happened?

12v, as in 12.0v, is a fairly low for a battery, only about 50% charged. But I doubt if a rattle has anything to do with batteries.

A loud click-click-click when starting the genset would suggest insufficient voltage, but that's not what what would call a "rattle". And the jacks just run slow or not at all if the voltage is too low.

I also suggest running the engine while doing either. Helps with supplying extra juice.
