After watching some videos on escape from the RV emergency window, I decided I should attempt to open mine to see if it was stuck. It was indeed stuck and needed some effort to get it to move. Once it started opening and swinging upward, the weight is something that would be a pain to deal with in an emergency so I need to make a prop rod.

The issue is that the bottom of the foam seal was as hard as a rock and the soft part stuck to the window and tore a bit. It is an open cell foam so I am not sure how much of a seal it provides as the window frame had drains on the bottom.

Has anyone replaced this seal/foam? What did you use?

I am glad I opened it because now it opens quickly and smoothly, but I sure wish the foam seal didn't rip in the process.

A good reminder for everyone, exercise the emergency exit. School bus drivers are usually required to open it before each day's trip.

Measure the dimensions of the foam gasket and look on line or at a home improvement store, there are many sizes to choose from.

Use a small brush and brush some talcum powder around gasket. It helps from sticking and doesn't hurt anything. Sometimes silicone works well too

Here is how I made my prop rods for my emergency window. The rods can greatly increase your chance of survival in the limited amount of time you have to escape fire, smoke, and toxic fumes.

Thanks for the information. Do you know the length of your dowels. You appear to have the exact same window I have in my Kountry Star.

Curious, have you tried going out if it? It is quite small.

My window props are 22". I would suggest opening your window and measuring to be sure.

Yes, the window is small and Yes my wife has exited using it. She helped Mac the Fireguy do a demonstration on using your escape window. Mac McCoy suggests having two prop rods. If one drops outside in all the excitement, the second one can be real handy. Mac also suggests laying a heavy blanket across the bottom of the open window frame. This will help to reduce abrasions. You may get hurt dropping to the ground, but you will be alive.
