emissions test/inspection

As a soon to be owner (I hope), I was wondering if class A RV's need an inspection sticker like a car and where in Massachusetts can I get it done?

You have seven days from time of registration. Check with local DMV offices to find a station to inspect your new RV.

You are required to get your RV inspected in Massachusetts each year just like your car, if you fail you have 10 days to get it fixed and return to the same station for re-inspection at no charge. There are many places in the Haverhill area, most RV and truck repair shops are licensed to inspect as well as repair. Be sure that you have not disconnected the chassis batteries recently, disconnecting them will erase data in the engine computer. Do a google search for truck repair, Haverhill, MA. As a example, I found Wentworth, 89 Newark St, Haverhill, MA. I used to lived in North Andover and know there are more in the area, the search will show you many to choose from.

Thanks Dave. I'm trying to get all the ducks lined up before I sign on the dotted line.

If you are buying from a dealer they should be getting it inspected for you, a private sale or out of state dealer, no. The inspection fee is the same as your car, $35. You will have to pay sales tax in order to get your registration, which you will need to get the inspection.

Make the inspection part of the deal...period.

Seller regardless can get it inspected and passed before sale.

Better for you...

In Ca law requires sellers to make all repairs.

Not sure there but best to have it "certified" before any money moves.

You can ask to be present during inspection so you can ask questions

The inspection we are discussing is the Massachusetts state vehicle inspection for safety and emissions.

Yes we understood that.

Unless it cannot be done pre sale by law it should be

The state inspection cannot take place until the registration is in hand. That cannot take place until the sale has completed. The private seller is in a different state and frankly doesn't care about Mass nor is he able to get it inspected. The deal includes an a inspection by a qualifed third party before cash changes hands. My question was is a state inspection required and where do I get it. I have not seen any RVs with the MA state windshield sticker which led to my question.

"Massachusetts requires every vehicle registered in the state to have a current vehicle inspection sticker visibly displayed to be legally driven on state roadways."

You might ask at a Massachusetts RV dealer, but while I don't find anything specific to Class A or C RVs, seems to me it would be included in "every."

In Mass from the time you acquire a vehicle and register it you have 10 days to get it inspected.

Thanks everyone. I called a few of the closest MA dealers, but none handled class A or inspection stickers. There are really no class A dealers on the North Shore. The closest are in NH, but that doesn't help. Following Dr. Dave's advice, I found a local truck stop that can handle things for me. I'm all set now. Thanks everybody for your help!
