Starting batteries, etc.

It does have 2 starting batteries. I offered to bring a battery booster that a mechanic told me would start it, but the owner said no. The house batteries are also dead and the generator has no propane. I think he really doesn't want to start it for some reason or he realized he's upside down and can't afford to pay the remainder of the note. I noticed there was a large, commercial battery charger on a cart in the barn. Not really sure what's going on, but it's in westen NC three hours from home and I'm tired of fooling with him. I suspect it will sit there until it deteriorates badly. Thanks, guys - I'll have questions on the next candidate!

A couple of thoughts here. 1/ You said he has health issues. This process may be too much for him to handle and he is simply being a stubborn old man.

2/ There is a major mechanical problem (injectors, turbo..., LP regulator, bad LP tank...) and he knows you won't buy the rig if you discover these things.

Your final conversation with him may reveal the truth. Simply ask him why is he not willing for you to start the engines? (Most likely the generator is liquid feed. He may have run the propane out through starting over the years parked.)

We are all looking to hear "the rest of the story".

not to beat a worn out horse, but

If it was worth the risk to you, I.E. cheap enough, you would have been posting pics and not questions. You know dirt cheap enough to where you dont feel afraid to absorb the cost of some failures.

Find that price in your head and offer it, you never know. I personally took 10K off the avg low price and offered 10k under that. the owner came back with a 3k up price and the deal was done. With a 17k buffer (17k under avg low price) I felt plenty safe enough to take it.

You have to feel like you can at least get your money back.
