Engine Manual

Hi
I have a 2000 Fleetwood Flair with a 7.4L 454 workhorse,
I had to have the engine replaced and they are telling me that the Knock Sensor wiring harness has not been hooked up for a long time.
They want $645 to replace the wire harness. this seems like a lot of money for this? and after $15,000 to have the engine replaced I kind of out of money.
I would like to find a diagram of the wiring and knock sensor so I can do this myself.
Anyone know where I can get a manual showing this.
Thanks

Go online and do a search for "7.4L 454 workhorse manual". that should come up with several places you can get a PDF file of the manual.

I'll bet you can buy that sensor pigtail and splice it in to the harness. Are they condemning the whole harness for this reason alone or is it its condition generally poor?

Hi
Yes they were going to replace the whole harness just because of the knock sensor wire.
I have yet to find a manual or diagram to show the wire from the sensor to where it plugs into.
or a manual for the engine.
Thanks

I would think that if you get a pic of your sensor and of the plug/connector and then along with the year and engine size info went to napa they'd have that pigtail or could get it. Ask them to look up the appropriate KS and ask for the connector that fits it. A careful splice job and you're home. Does this problem set a check engine light? If not I'm not sure I'd sweat it much anyway.

Hi
I was told that the knock sensor would not cause a check engine light at the service center I went to.
I will get this fixed, either by me or another mechanic that will replace just the sensor and that wiring.
I did find a service manual at Ultra RV on line. But before I buy it (25 bucks) I will try and contact them to make sure it's the right one.

Thanks
Geri

Everyone from Amazon to Ebay is showing GM KS harnesses from $25-$40, including one ebay listing from China offering 2 ks and dual sensor harness for $23 free shipping. Might be plug and play if you're lucky, although after $15k for a repower I'm not sure how lucky you are!

What's the old saying, If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all.

Actually, the problem was I bought my RV used from a private seller and he or someone before him must have destroyed the original engine, because when I had it replaced they found a serial number and tag from a junk yard on the engine.
I now know why I got, or what I thought I got such a good deal on it.
How is one to know when someone sets out to screw someone else just to get rid of a problem they have?

I seen the prices on the KS and wires that's why I didn't have the work done and believe that the "harness" they wanted to replace had other wires for other parts that were running through that harness, thus the high price for that harness.
