Engine monitoring

I have noticed in the past my temp gauge would run 1/2 to 3/4 driving down the road. I can hear the fan clutch engage and the temp would cool to 1/2 and creep back up to 3/4 hear the fan kick in and so on. The temperature gauge goes to high towards the red line for my comfort. I was going to install a real time gauge set in coach. What brands are worth purchasing with least hassle and best dependability. Is this common operation of my gauge or is there an issue developing?

Have you cleaned the radiator ? Cummins says, clean every 7,500 miles, for rear rad set up.

May members using Scan Gauge , or Silver Leaf ,dash board read outs for real time display and trouble code readout.

I have the Silverleaf unit. It was pretty easy to setup.

I bought the base unit from RV Upgrades. https://www.rvupgradestore.com/Silve...tors-s/150.htm

Downloaded the software from Silverleaf website. I had an older Sony Viao laptop, fairly small, that I use for the monitor. I bought a laptop mount and put it on the left side of the steering wheel for easy access. I can still see the shift touch pad and the rest of the buttons on the dash. I played with what PDI's I monitor. The most important for me are engine temp, transmission temp, voltage. I then have smaller screens for trip info (distance, fuel consumption, mpg etc).

Attached is my laptop mount setup and a screen shot. I have since changed the way the screen layout but this gives you an idea of what it is capable of.
