Understand your position. For me just an occasional check of engine parameters to keep an eye on the health of my motor will suffice. If I have to hit a scroll button so be it. I flew jetliners for a living and also had a boat with radar that I would be out in the ocean in fog. In those situations more was better mostly for safety. When I fly little planes a stick, rudder and a compass with no radio to hear a bunch a noise is just right. It's great we have choices for very cheap either way you go.
