Engine monitoring system

I am looking into an engine monitoring system for my 2002 Newmar Country Star diesel. What are some of the lower price systems that use a laptop with maybe bluetooth or wifi?

Thanks

From the search I did a few years back, by the time you get the cables and software for a laptop, you've spent more $ than a stand alone system.

ScanGaugeD - Advanced J1939 & J1708 compatible Vehicle Monitor for Diesel Pusher Vehicles : Linear Logic

Hi noserider,
I use the Scan Gauge D for my coach and would make the same purchase again.

This is what Silverleaf looks like on a tablet. You can customize it to whatever you want. For me it has basically replaced the stock dash gauges. I really like it alot. This set up isn't cheap though, first is the cost of the Silverleaf, then there's the cost of the laptop/tablet. The computer in the picture is a Dell XPS 12.

Gary. I'm leaning toward the Scan Gauge for it's simplicity and size. Does it get it's power from the pin connector or does it need to be plugged in to 12v?

I don't think the Scangauge nor Silverleaf will work at all on an older (mechanical) 8.3 Cummins. They need to be an electronic one like our '02 ISC.

I use the VMSpc on a 7" Acer netbook velcroed to the dash cover.

I have the Scangauge D in my 03' Discovery (Cat 330). I simply plugged it into the diagnostics plug under the steering wheel and then velcroed it to the dash. The good: It was only $147. The not so good: Unlike the Silverleaf, you can only monitor 4 functions at a time.

X2, on Mr_D's comment , in order to use these readouts, your engine must have electronic controls ; an ECM ( Electronic Control Module ); something a 12 valve Cummins , doesn't have.

I purchased the ScanGauge tonight online. Good deal right now with Autozone online. Paid $147 including tax with free shipping. You might avoid the tax if your in a state that does not have Auto Zone but not sure about that. Also included is a $25 coupon on additional purchase online of $50 or more.

I have been using the Silverleaf for about 3 years and love it. I use it on a Dell laptop that I already had and bought a 9" USB driven monitor and mounted it in my dash where the previous back-up monitor had been. Seems like the complete Silverleaf was $295 and the monitor was about $100.

My opinion is that the Scan Gauge screen is WAY TOO small for me compared to the VMSpc screen that I use on my 10 inch Dell notebook.

Besides, when I want to see what is happening to my engine performance I want it now, not when the Scan Gauge gets to it.

It may work for you but I know that it wouldn't for me.

I actually should have said what you said. I phrased mine as an ISC as that's what we have, but the SilverLeaf stuff only works with the newer electronic engines as you said.
Hopefully going to look at a newer used rig and just got the thought that maybe I should take the VMSpc setup with me and read the ISM's/4000 readings. Hadn't thought of that till just now!
