Engine or transmission problem?

When I drive my 1994 Winnebago for about an hour when it down shifts it starts to hiss and the check engine light comes on. When I step on the gas it up shifts and down shifts suddenly. We changed the throttle positioning sensor thinking this was the problem, it wasn't.
Any suggestions?

With a bent paper clip, short the A and B terminals on the ALDL connector near the steering column, count the check engine light flashes to get the code that's stored.
