So why were the coach batteries dead if they are not charged up by the chassis battery?
And why were they not charging up if the coach was plugged in, but the chassis battery was dead?
They only charged up after the coach battery was replaced with a new one that was fully charged and then we plugged the coach in, waited 24 hours and all was good????

Sounds like the coach batteries were dead because you posted the surge protector was tripped so no power was probably going to the converter to charge the coach batteries. The chassis battery is not charged by the coach converter but by the alternator on the engine when it is running. It is a good idea to put a battery tender charger on the chassis battery if it is going to set idle for long periods. Depending on what type of drains are on the chassis battery and the size of the battery it could last from a week to months.
