Exhaust Tip
We picked up a new to us 2009 Expedition 38f and I have a question about the exhaust tip...like what's up with it? It seems that almost ALL the tips I see are round and chrome...what is this thing? It looks restrictive.

Not sure, but I think that peculiar pipe is part of the exhaust system that uses DEF. Does your coach use DEF?

Negative on the DEF. I think it sort of looks like a spark arrestor, but that seems weird.

Started seeing that shape with the DPF exhaust systems, which I'm pretty sure you have , more about heat dissipation and spread than looks.

DPF yes, but I know that heavy trucks from 2008/09 do not have this tip so I'm a little confused...and I think it needs to go.

No point intended. Your post wasn't there when I posted!
DPF was a sort of interim system, right? Pre DEF?

Truck exhaust stack 13' in the air vs one a foot off the road and that close to fiberglass , apples and oranges. JMHO.

By all means, deep six the sucker if you don't like the look! Never let engineering get in the way of appearance!

DPF, diesel particulate filter, is the first step they took. Since 2012, I believe, they started with the fluid as well.

That tip is like that because of the DPF and regeneration. It is so you don't get burned when you walk by with it in regen mode. You ever feel that heat. It will bubble your skin real quick.

Wouldn't a turned down tip do the same thing? Because that thing is ugly as sin.
