Extended Insurance

Some of you have extended insurance on your Motor Home. We are trying to find insurance for our 2014 Forest River Georgetown. Sure would appreciate suggestions. This is a huge investment and I would hate to lose it all because we did not have extended insurance. Some say, "Do not worry about it." We do have concerns because we would never be able to replace our Home away from Home. Thanks and look forward to hearing some discussion.

Extended Insurance

Sorry, But I'm not familiar with your term, "extended insurance". Can you be more specific? Are you talking about an extended warranty or replacement insurance in case of atotal loss, as your post infers?

If the former, personally I do not buy extended warranties and that has worked very well for me. My reasons are numerous, I won't detail them here. Others will have different experiences and opinions; to each his own!

If you are asking about insurance, especially in case of a total loss, I chose Blue Sky after extensive research. They will replace the motorhome at an increasing valuation for the first five years. After that the value declines slowly, but never goes below, or even close to the price I paid for my motorhome when it was two years old when I purchased it.

Hope this helps.

Since you have a 2014 I'm assuming it has a warranty from Georgetown already. I wouldn't be in a big hurry to purchase an extended warranty til the one you have is getting close to expiring.

We owned a brand new unit prior to the current one we now own and we were very naïve in thinking more is better immediately. The fact is we did not realize we had bought and paid an annual premium on our first policy and couldn't use the extended plan until the original warranty had expired. I found that out when I tried to use it the first time we had a significant warranty claim and called in to register it with the extended warranty company. They said "sir, you must have an expired manufacturer's warranty prior to making a claim on this policy". My point is, don't pay for something you can't use yet. x2 to Ramets comment. Wait till you get near the end of the new vehicle warranty before committing to an extended plan.

When we owned a 5th wheel I always said I would not buy an extended service contract because it was not worth the expense. Now that we own a motorhome, my position is opposite, I will always buy one. This is because a MH is much more complicated and complex. In our case, the purchase price of the extended service contract was very expensive for our 2000 MH, but, to date the contract has paid for $4,000 worth of repairs and replacements, almost all of the purchase price. There are still 2 years remaining on the contract.
I hope this helps you make your decision.
