Extended Warranties

We are in the process of buying a used 2010 Sightseer 37L with 17,000 miles on it. It is in great condition, and really taken care of maintenance wise.
This will be our first Winnebago.
Taking into account Winnebago's legendary quality, would you recommend a 3 year, 30,000 mile extended warranty for a little less than $6,000.
It covers major appliances, engine, chassis, slides etc.
Any input is appreciated.

Extended Warranties

Welcome to irv2. I believe in them , others don't. I think $6000 is very high. Dealers make a huge profit on them. There are companies that you can go to directly for a lot less. You'll get a lot of feed back here on some of those companies . Here's a link to some previous threads.

$6000 for 3 yrs???!!!! Holy crap.

And my opinion is take that $6000, and put it in a term deposit earning interest. 80:1 odds you will be ahead in 3 yrs.

Extended Warranties

I purchased a warranty for 3 yrs at almost $10k, I had my doubts but so far it has paid over $5k for the first year. My coach has slide trouble, refrig. Problems, roof issues, and level motor issues. Coach is a 2007, so I think the warranty IS worth it.

We bought our unit in Apr 2013 and bought a warranty thru Wholesale Warranties for $4,000+ and its term is 7 years. Shop around, but do not buy one from the dealer!

We paid $5000 for a 5 yr warranty with Good Sams which covered everything except consumables on a Sightseer. They paid about $1000 to replace the air conditioner. We bought a new coach after one year with the Sightseer and got a $3700 refund. What you are paying for is peace of mind. Is it worth it? For us it is and we also purchased an extended warranty on the Palazzo.

I agree.....I think the peace of mind is worth it. Try and think of it as filling a debit card with cash that you will use along the way.

I used to be the guy in the finance office who sold those warranties in car dealerships. And I bought one on this rig without any question. I look at the investment and the really high risk of breakage and that I don't do mechanics.

My neighbor has a few dealerships and the service contracts can have a 90% profit margin for the selling dealer. I agree to put the 6gs in a savings account and have fun!!

Care to share with us what your dealer's margin was on those warranties?

I have had 6 of the extended warranty in the past 10 years and I would never buy another one from a dealer. I wrote an article a couple of years ago about my experience with extended warranties. I paid $3500 for a 5 year one and sold the rig after 1 year and 3 months. I only got $1700 back what a rip off. Here is a link to my article.

Back in the '80s I could charge any amount in Ga. Can't do that in Fl. they don't allow dealers to do that. Make sure their brochure lists the prices. I can't remember a margin. We were able to sell independent companies that were less than the factory plans. You have to do some research and there were some good tips already posted. I just spent over $600 to have the check valve removed behind the water heater as it fell apart and couldn't get the hot water to the faucets. This one I haven't claimed since the big slide needs new motor and arms as it's sagging. Oh, the fresh water tank is leaking and warranty will take care of that with a $250 ded. I have a folder full of receipts on repairs. How much do you think an Allison trans would cost or any repairs to the drive train? Negotiate the deal including the plan you want.
