Extended warranty
I'm a newbie, purchasing a Phaeton IH that will be newly built shortly. Any thoughts on extended warranty purchase from good Sam or others versus just 1st yr warranty on the bus would be appreciated ..thanks

Bought our 2008 Phaeton used in 2017. Did lots of research about warranty. Many pro, many con. Many horror stories, many sad stories, many glad stories.
We didn't get a warranty - instead put the money in the bank. It's pretty much all still there.

As a former service manager for a major retailer, our service contracts (only the manufacturer can offer an 'extended warranty' but salespeople still push service contracts as such) were a profit mechanism. Only 10% of buyers got any use from them. We called them the 10%'ers as they made 90% of the claims.
So, if you're one of those people who has their stuff always breaking down, sure, get one. If not, take the money you would spend on one and put it into the bank. And add to it every month. You'll be money ahead.

Here is our experience posted in another thread;
So far we have had two items repaired/replaced without any hassle whatsoever. We paid our $100 deductible and they paid the rest to the service center for parts and labor. The shop called them with the issues and repair costs and received same day authorization. So far we are happy with this coverage and fingers crossed will continue to prove its worth. We have the Platinum coverage from Compass RV which I believe is AGWS. Online reviews had us concerned about this company as many complaints but for us, so far zero issues with coverage and very happy.

Don't buy a policy from the dealer. You are covered bumper to bumper for the first year, so if you buy a four year policy you are only getting three years of coverage. At the end of the first year, you can decide if you want to obtain a policy from one of the aftermarket companies. Just my $.02 worth, but I would stay away from Good Sam.

The money that I didn't pay for all the extended Service contracts over the years is still in the bank. I did not spend on repairs a fraction of what the premiums would have totaled. Not buying a single ESC over the years is one of the best savings I have done. We could take several cruises with what I didn't buy.

We bought an ESC from Good Sam when we bought our used MH due it it being just our of storage in a barn for 8 years.
It was a good investment in our case, it more than paid for the premiums during the contract period.
For a new MH I would wait until the OEM warranty expired, then make a decision.
FWIW, the GS ESC was not difficult to use, as with any contract simply comply with the fine print prior to authorizing any repair work.

I purchased a 2004 Holiday Admiral two years ago it came with a transferable warranty for $100.00 I did not think it was worth it, my wife said just pay the $100.00. To date AWG replaced the engine, and a few other things in the $11,000.00 range so far. The crazy thing is it's good till 2020. I can't believe they made any money off of us. Will I do it again...maybe!

Use the new warranty for the first year. That will give you plenty of time to shop around in case you decide to buy an extended service plan. Talk to some repair shops about what they think about some of the companies since they have to deal with them. We bought a plan a year ago when we bought a used 2009. We had no history on the coach and very little in service records. A rebuilt Cummins ISM500 is in the $30 to $40k region. An Allison 4000, I have no idea but I'm guessing not cheap. We have had some claims, nothing major, but it adds up in a hurry. A few more claims and we will have broken even on cost. I'm happy with the policy for the most part. Just read the fine print and imagine every way a lawyer might find to get out of paying on something. We had one were they approved the claim but only for half the cost. Where's the logic with that? It's either covered or it's not. Enjoy.
