Extended warranty plans

We just bought our first class A diesel pusher, a 2006 Holiday Rambler Endeavor PAQ. What is the best extended warranty plan we should buy. Is Good Sam's Gold plan worth the money? Decided to ask the question here after reading all that was excluded in the Good Sam's Gold plan.

FWIW: Yep! They exclude a lot of stuff. But then they have to take in about 35% more than they plan, on average, to pay out just to stay in business. You are basically buying and insurance policy to protect you from major repair costs. We had a Coast to Coast policy in 1998 and a major breakdown in the Rockies. They coordinated and paid for our rental car, motel, motorhome towing, and full repair bill, a total of almost $11,000, while we waited for a new ISB engine to be sourced, shipped, and installed. The approximately $3,500 cost for the 7 years of coverage was a real bargain. Insurance on our next motor home, a 2005 Bounder, cost near $5,000 and covered repairs (a house water pump and a tire) tat totaled less than $1,000. Current ride coverage was just over $6,000 and a year and 8,000 miles later no repairs have been needed. Like collision in insurance, I hope I never need it. Odds are you will save several thou$and by not having it, but I find that the piece-of-mind is rather nice for the price. Dan

We never buy a service policy (by law they're not a "warranty") but sure wish we had with the present rig!

We had included in our purchase price of our 2003 Southwind a warranty from Portofolio Protection. In the three years we have owned the coach they have replaced a motor slide $850, a water pump $125, a microwave $900, converter $900. I would not leave home without the peace of mine of a warranty. Also, we have Good Sam towing and they towed my toad 120 miles on a Sunday when we had a problem in Oregon no charge.

We have Star warranty, have used it many times, no problem getting them to cover items. I will need to renew again in June & will renew my coverage. I have noticed they cover some items good sam does
not. you need to purchase Star thru a RV dealer that sells this policy.

Check with www.wholesalewarranties.com I've had an XtraRide policy from them for over 4yrs. and NEVER a problem, unlike Good Sam which I had previously. I've just recently had a new heat pump, and Magnum 2800w PSW inverter installed, and after my $100ded., they took care of everything else. We've used it from Whitehorse in the Yukon to Florida, and a few places in between. Through the years it's more than paid for itself.

We bought a ESC = Extended Service Contract when we bought this MH. The policy cost $4,800, to date it has paid for itseif. It expires May 1 and we plan to renew the GS service contract for another 3 years, at which time our MH will be 18, the maximum age for a GS ESC.
Whichever companies you favor, download a copy of their contract terms and read the fine print before committing.
For instance, Good Sam tells you what IS covered, and what IS NOT covered in their contract terms.

I have had GS for over 10 years and have no complaints. Yes they do exclude a lot but mainly normal wear and tear stuff.

For the most part I have been satisfied with XtraRide. They have replaced items that I thought they would only want to repair, but wouldn't pay for the required circuit board for a new heat pump because they classified that as an "upgrade". So it pretty much balances out. I would use them again.

Just be aware of the exclusions. Wholesale warranties would not cover a defective Diesel Particulate filter and probe. Cost me over 4K.
