F-53 wheel bearings

Our first long distance trip in our 2015 Jayco Precept 35un and we lost a right front wheel bearing on I-70 in Kansas. Our unit has less than 4,000 miles. Thankfully the wheel stayed on. Wrecker towed unit 150 miles to a dealer who would look at it. Going to be a long wait for parts and repairs. My advice to all, have your bearings checked regardless of miles and years. Rumor has it that Ford has a bearing issue with many F-53's but fails to acknowledge the problem.

Here's another thread about failed wheel bearings... 2014 F53 chassis - 2 Bad Wheel Bearings ???

There are also some kingpin failures documented in the F53 Chassis section of the forum.

Not good. I wonder where Ford sources their wheel bearings. I have seen too many Chinese made bearings and seals on trailer axles. Nothing better than a good American made Timken bearing and Chicago Rawhide (CR) seal.

Timpkin has had plants in China for several years.Locations

Dexter also has several plants on China and most trailer brake drums/hubs are produced there.

Boeing has many suppliers/part makers in China and may put an assembly plant there in the next few years.Boeing Ready to Move 737 Production to China

In todays world, nothings escapes the China cheap labor.

Got new bearings on both front wheels. Ford payed for right front, I paid for left as they wouldn't pay unless it failed. I have read of people getting one fixed and the second failing a short time later. Unit was towed 150 miles to a Ford dealer who would work on it in a timely manor. There was a dealer right across the street from the Walmart we were stranded in who wouldn't look at it for three weeks. Really? Took 10 days to get repaired, and Jayco helped with our expenses, even though it was a Ford issue. I used to be very concerned with the home part of the unit, now I have to worry about Ford to.
