F53 A/C Problems

What a/c components are Ford besides the compressor? Iím cutting short a cross -country trip in my Winnebago Vista because the a/c has stopped blowing cold air. This is the third compressor this trip. Could the cause be a Winnebago part, or is the a/c system all Ford?

I think Ford. Hard to imagine that many compressors. Did they flush out the AC condenser and replace the AC drier? I mean really flush condenser out! If they just slapped on a new compressor each time then all the junk just floats around and fouls the new compressor.

The chassis parts are Ford. The compressor. The condensor. The hoses between the two are all Ford. The heater housing, evaporator, etc are Winnebago. I agree with the other poster, when a compressor fails, the system MUST be flushed and a new dryer installed to validate the warrenty and stop future damage. Your repairs should be covered if all the parts were changed. I just did a Honda Odessey three weeks ago. We ordered the complete kit. It comes with a flush, a new expansion valve. a new dryer, A O'ring kit, and a new compressor. If you buy the kit, the compressor is warentied for one year.

Don't abort the mission

Most new Ford compressors are shipped with no oil , if tech installs and dosen't fill failure is inevitable. Should be basic AC 101 , flush contaminated sytem and fill compressor. Ditto on running genset instead of cancel trip . Turn AC off or disconnect AC clutch, run climate control fan on recirc to get airflow while driving .

As far as the dash AC, it is not designed to cool the MH. It will help defrost the wind shield and cool it slightly but if you want cool, that is what the Generator and roof AC/ACs are for.
Run the windshield fans and crank the generator and roof air. Besides it makes it that much cooler when you first get to camp to cool down the insides if it is already cool.
Besides my wife and the dog would kill me if I don't run the AC.

I am not sure what year your motorhome is, or the exact problem. Does it blow cold sometimes, but then warm at other times? Here is a fix I found on the internet a few years ago.
My 2001 F250 would blow cold when started, then turn to warm/hot air after it warmed up. This air gap fix worked perfectly, and the AC has been ice cold ever since.
On our 2005 F53, the air blows cool, not cold, when running down the road. Once we stop, it goes warm. I don't know if it is the air gap on the motorhome, but I'm going to check it before I move on to other things.

I didn’t expect the dashboard a/c to cool the coach, the driver and passenger. Original until barely blew cool, Camping World said that was the best I could expect. Drove from Fl to CA like that. Then It quit. A Ford truck service place installed a new compressor and it cooled like my car!! We were thrilled. Unfortunately, it failed completely the next day. Found another Ford place. They said the CA compressor was not the correct one. They installed another one which lost its cool and leaked fluid.in one day. We just want this to be over. We’re going home with coach a/c via gen set.

We need to know the year of your F53 chassis. For the 2011 Model Year F53 chassis (which is mine) here is the diagram for the parts that are supplied by Ford (Detroit Chassis) and those supplied by Evans-Tempcon. Winnebago does not supply any of the dash AC system parts at least for the 2011 MY F53.

OK, here's a little better PDF diagram from Evans. It covers the AC parts that are Evans vs Ford from 2005 to current and also shows other chassis.
