F53 Shifter Stuck in Park
Hi all I am sure someone in here will know the answer to this problem.
About 4 years ago my 1996 Winnebago on a F53 Chassis, stuck in park.
I was at a RV repair depot and the service Advisor said to take off the plastic all around the steering column and he would send out a Mechanic.
Took it all off, called for the Technician, but tried it while waiting. It worked. Now 4 years later It just did it again 2 days ago. Took plastic all off, and it worked again. Again today, Plastic still off. But now it will not come out. no one around here has any idea what is the issue and what to do to fix it. So here I am at the good old reliable info spot. I would really appreciate a direction to go with this problem. Thanks
BUD

This issue has come up many times before. Using the search box at the top right with the Google logo yields these results:

BUD4U, When we had our class C on a 450 ford chassi , we had a fuse that was blown and wouldn't let me get it out of park. The clue was we had no brake lights, after hitting a really bad pot hole. Our owners manual had a section dedicated to this problem, with trouble shooting. It had something to do with the brake light switch and wiring. Maybe something similiar with yours, good luck and let us know what you find.

I think I remember having this same problem after losing a fuse in the brake circuit also. If my memory serves me ok, for an emergency move, turn the engine off, shift to neutral, start engine, shift into gear. REMEMBER, you have no brake lights!
Hope this helps.....burfurd

Those who mention the brake lights...
The shift lock is a small solenoid that is powered by the brake light circuit (that's why it doesn't work when the fuse blows...)

For emergency use only, turn the key to the first position (unlock) with the brake on. Shift into neutral and start the engine. Now you can get it into gear to drive/move it.
If you place it back into Park, you will have to perform this again to get it back out of Park.

No flashers, no brake lights and stuck in park! I have checked All fuses and cannot find a bad one. Considering jumping power to the brake switch, any suggestions?
