X2. Avoid any vent that requires bolt removal for cleaning. The hinged type and the Fantastic vent with 4 hair pins are IMHO best.
Fantastic vent , is perhaps the tallest , and that may be an issue if your concerned about clearance, but ; and this is the sales pitch ; offer the least restriction to air flow .

I bought this type and found that Winnebego mounts the fantastic fan without screws. They only use caulking. The vent cover suggest that removing 4 screws and mounting the brackets using those screws is all that is needed. Since there are no screws drillling is needed and their seems to be no framework below to drilll into. Therefore the screws that mount the cover is attached by only the fan flange that is 1/8" thick plastic. Since I do not trust the 1/8" thickness to be secure I used the caulk as a adhesive and am not sure about it security and find it questionable about wether it will be secure in the wind.

We have always had covers. On our current coach, we have the Maxxair over our two Fantastic fans. I painted both covers to match the coach. The A/C covers, vent covers, refer cover and now the Jack TV antenna are all painted to match.

When we travel during the summer, I turn on one of the Fantastic fans to draw hot air out while driving, helping the A.C a little.

I can see no really good reason for not having covers installed.

I don't have an exact measurement , the Fantastic Vent does not allow the power vent to open fully ; about an inch low ; so I would say the Fantastic at the rear lip would be as tall as a fully opened vent cover . Currently the highest point on the coach. But I was under 12' to start so I didn't worry.

I bought two CAMCO vent covers at Wal-mart and installed them. Best price on the planet and they do the job perfectly.

X2 on the Camco covers:
Camco Vent Cover-White - RVWholesalers.com RV Parts and Accessories

They do restrict the airflow slightly because the stock cover can not crank fully open.
However, IMO the ability to keep the stock covers open in any weather outweighs the slight restriction.

Send a message via Yahoo to chili's trip
I have used the 2 Maxair types other than the Fantastic Vent covers and they restrict air flow 40 to 60%. Makes a difference when running on batteries. You get about the same airflow running on med as on low with out the cover. (1.2amps vs 2.6amps) Its to late for me but should be considered. The Fantastic vent cover offers 75% more flow. Good luck.

That was my main concern. My A/C unit is 14" tall and this makes my MH right at 12' 10" tall.
