Got our first 17' Type B MH in 1987, my late DW never drove it.
Got our first 25' Type C MH in 1997, my late DW never drove it.
Got our first 35' Type A Mh in 1999, my late wife never drove it.
Got our first 38' Type A DP in 2000, my late wife never drove it.
Got our first 40' Type A DP in 2002, my late wife never drove it.
Got out first 45' Type A DP in 2015, my late wife never drove it.
Hmm, seems to be a trend there doesn't it?

When I met my DW 16 years ago she was driving a 1996 35' Georgie Boy Cruisemaster on a F53 chasis with Ford 460 cu in power. I had never driven a motorhome but she trusted me to take the wheel, which I gladly did. A couple years ago we moved up to our current 39' DP, which she easily handles, altho she was a bit weary at first - didn't like the air brakes. Altho I do most of the driving, she is willing to go a couple hours or so while I take a butt break.

My wife so far hasn't driven the coach at all, and it appears she has no intention of doing so. I'd like for her to learn to drive it in case she has to someday.

My DW can and does drive our coach. She has no problem with steering, stopping and handling the coach whatsoever. However, she simply does not understand the coach systems - and freaks whenever any warning alarms or lights happen to come on. We've had the coach for two years - and despite me explaining these things again and again and again ... the minute an alarm sounds or a light comes on it's like it's the "first time" and it's on me to assess it and provide direction if a response is needed.
She's also "directionally challenged" in a big way - which means she struggles to navigate thru larger cities where roads/freeways are merging and splitting off.
Bottom line, she's a great relief driver - as long as I'm in the passenger seat to explain systems and tell her where she's going.
We continue to work on it - but, in practical terms - we pretty much know that she's gonna take her shifts are when we're on open road and that I'm going to take over at the last rest area before larger towns.

On all of our trips I always drive the coach and when we disconnect the toad she always drives it.
Bad deal for her...she's had to drive in every major city in the country with Boston being her least favorite.

Ah Boston, where driving is a full contact sport and using your turn signals is a sign of weakness.

I'm one of the DWs who can drive as needed. I think it's important, for me, to know the ins and outs of our rig. My name's on there as one of the owners! DH does most of the driving but I've gotten behind the wheel on some of the drives. I want to be comfortable with the rig. Easier now than having to try and drive when DH isn't well or not able to drive. We can each trade off on setup and breakdown. The best part of the drive/ride in the RV? Our time together. No phone, no computer, no tv. Just enjoy the view & the conversation as the road passes by.

Nope. Not going to happen. Can't even get to start the Class A,
or pull the fifth wheel,
tow the travel trailer
or tow either of the pop-up tent trailers.
We carry travel assist insurance for if/when I go incapacitated and can go no further.

I guess I'm the oddball! The MH was my idea, DH finally gave in and acquiesced but hasn't gotten behind the wheel yet! In his defense, due to severe hip pain he really can't help much but I've gained a whole new world of experience in driving the rig, setting it up and tearing it down while he enjoys the ride!
